JL Audio 13" 13TW5v2 in Home Theatre

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought PB-1000, but the WAF was a no go. My previous sub was hidden behind the TV completely, for a nice clean look, but it was a total POS. There is no other place to put a sub in my room.

So,
I bought a JL Audio 13" TW5v2 - 4 Ohm, along with with a Yung 300W Class D Plate.
I have room behind my TV for a 8" Depth box, and the specs for the JL easily can accommodate this, and actually even much smaller depths as the sub only needs a 2.5" internal depth to mount.

I'm worried about a $500 subwoofer being totally wasted if this doesn't hit like I am hoping.
Has anyone else taken a Sub designed for a car and put it in their theatre room?

WAF?

You're hosed dude.

Unless able to convince the wife that quality of sound trumps her hate for subwoofer boxes, you're hosed and just going have to do without.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to figure out what to do behind the TV, as she's not going to go for the PB-1000.
Maybe I can get the pc-12 NSD into the corner..

I used to have an entire boatload of crap in that corner below with a 56" DLP that I've moved - directv box, AVR, roku, some speakers, Line conditioner, you name it.

I bought a 60" plasma, dumped the old DLP, and moved everything into a closet and wall mounted the TV.
She loves it, and to be honest, I love how clean it is too. Unfortunately, I haven't been much of an audio person over the last decade as I've had other things to worry about, and our speaker set was a Bose AM-6 with a Kenwood 1080VR, both about 15 years old now. I bought a Pioneer 1522K, and am deciding between the B&W satellite's, the paradigm satellites, or perhaps the energy take classics as all I can really do with the location is small satellites.

I decided it is high time for something better, but I have some aesthetic constraints, as well as physical constraints where the TV is located (see picture, where you can see I mounted the Bose Junk on top.) The TV rotates out when we want to use it, what you see in the picture is where I put it when not in use (and thus the room for a sub behind the TV).

So, my only option is to find something I can mount behind the TV, like the milleniaone sub (awfully expensive), to custom making a box that will fit back there..

Thus, I am here asking for help!

Beeman,
What part do you think I am hosed in exactly?

Many have, with bad results. Car subs take advantage of cabin gain, which greatly enhances bass extension and sensitivity in small spaces, like cars, where it can kick in as high as 90Hz. Cabin gain in homes generally doesn't occur above 30Hz best case, so to compensate for the lack of cabin gain the sub must be larger. There's no getting around it.

Behind the TV may work, but what's the matter with under it?

Where WAF is concerned you can have speakers that are small and pretty, or you can have speakers that sound good. You can't have both.

Pretty much, all the decent choices. If the wife won't allow for a PB-1000, then any hope, like Elvis, has left the building.

Thanks for all the info guys,

I cancelled the orders on the JL parts, and ordered a pc12-nsd. Let's see how that works out. I have to put it further away, but I am hoping the extra power will do the trick!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Can you post a picture of your entire room...displaying your sitting area.

How about running a subwoofer to another area of your room, also the PC12NSD is a great subwoofer but given your strict WAF, you might consider the SB12. Gloss black cube, very good looking subwoofer.
