Yeah I saw that they had plans to make it into a service. And if it was a proof of concept or an alpha release, then I'd be more forgiving. But to me if it's beta then that means that the major features are more or less decided on and they are working out the bugs with them. Deciding if it runs as a user application or service seems to be a fairly big decision, one that should have been decided prior to the beta stage of development for an initial release. But I guess since it's free, I haven't contributed code, I only get my $10 donation say in the matter.
I have had the server running on as little as a single core VM, and classic has always been snappy for me. It usually has a little stutter at the beginning where it will pause for a second or two, and then it seems fine after that. You should post on their forums over there. I am sure someone will help you troubleshoot what the issue is with your slowness.
I don't think the problem is with Classic. I think the problem is with Server sending the data to classic. I just haven't had the time to investigate further. The whole storage server seems sluggish at times so it may not even specifically be MB3.
