The Media Player sends me a new curve ball every day. In order to complete the permanent installation of the player in my equipment rack, I had to order a longer HDMI cable to reach the X900. Since I am concerned with cable bulkiness, I ordered two HDMI cables with Redmere technology from Monoprice. The second Redmere cable is to replace the primary connection with my AVR. If you are familiar with these cables, they are directional.
So, I connected everything as follows:
- Primary connection X900 HDMI1 to Darbee using Redmere cable. Darbee to AVR using a 1' standard HDMI cable.
- Primary connection Media Player HDMI1 to X900 HDMI4 using the second Redmere cable.
- Secondary (audio only) connection from Media Player HDMI2 to AVR using 1' standard HDMI cable.
With the connections as described, audio doesn't work properly. It cuts in and out every couple of seconds, as if there were an HDMI handshake going on with the connection. Very disconcerting.
After a process of elimination by swapping cables out, the only way things work properly is if I remove the Redmere cable going from the X900 to the Darbee and replace it with a conventional cable. I have no idea why, but I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting it. Any ideas? Anything to do with two-way communication required, and the Redmere is uni-directional?
