In Ft Myers we do not have a store called BRANDS MART.
Brandsmart is a store that has just about every electronic component under the sun. I was truly impressed by the sheer size and layout of this super store. It makes BB look like a camping tent.
The only other electronics store that has impressed me is the Sega Mall, in Shenzhen China.
Today, I stayed in BrandM for 4 hours, and brought 3 identical thumb drives with me. All drives were loaded with same 1080p content from You Tube. Video clips like timescapes, Ink drops, Enigmatic chill out session, and some other music videos to test sound.
My wife who does not know too much about tv's was with me. Most of the time she was falling asleep.
First of all we started with the LG 65 Fald. I was expecting this TV to blow me out of the water. It did not. It's good...damned good..but not as good as the x9. The simulated 3d is not nearly as good as on the x9.
Colors were good, but the x9 has more depth to it. INTENSITY, describes the x9...the FALD was less intense.
Next we compared the X9 and the 850. Both were side by side with 2 inches separating both.
Both of these tv's as well as the FALD were on VIVID, all three were playing the same content.
You can immediately tell the 850 has a matte screen vs the x9, But you can also see that the "POP" is simply not there. The x9 depth and "LOOKING OUT OF THE WINDOW" effect were simply not as present on the 850 as with the x9.
I asked my wife what she preferred, she immediately pointed to the x9. "Why?" I asked...She said "That one's image is just so deep and gorgeous..it's different to any other Tv I have seen, The other one (the 850) could be any other TV". We both agreed that the matte finish albeit more practical reflection-wise, was missing something we could clearly see; but is difficult to put into words.
Next we examined the LG 84. It's Impossible to compare the 84 to a 65 because of it's sheer size. The image is good, but not breathtaking, It's size makes the combination of PQ breathtaking though.
I have not see the Sony 84 because only the BrandsMart In Miami has it. I will definitely go this week.
There is no way that the LG 84" has a better PQ or "POP" than the x9...The quality of the LG Full Array Led is better than the 84", but not by miles.
I prefer the 2d to 3d conversion by far on the Sony x9 to both the LG'S.
Also the LG's only have one 2d to 3d option. The Sony has 3 depth choices LOW, MEDIUM, AND HIGH"
One thing that was hilarious, was when we stood in front of the 850 with passive glasses. I kept telling the salesman "Your set is defective" he was getting all wound up pressing different buttons on the remote, I could see him get really stressed out...finally i told him it was active...
I was pleasantly surprised by the active compared to some other active tv's I have seen, however there is no doubt in my mind that passive beats active hands down.
The moral of the story here, is that if there are any "early adopters" of the x9, you should not worry, because there is nothing out there to rival the x9 to date.
I was not
going to pull any trigger today, because Brands Mart is two and a half hours from Fort Myers.
The sales person suddenly tells me : "You know there is no tax"!? "And we can offer free shipping"?
I pulled the trigger on the x9.
I also obtained a 3 year warranty for $149 , because the sales guy threw in a $300 gift card. In the end they had to charge a little for shipping because I did not want UPS. So they agreed to do white glove for $150.
Next ....imagine seeing and hearing every sound bar under the sun...From bose, to Polk, to Sony to Klipsh ...these guys had them all.
I must say was extremely impressed by the new sony sound bar (st7 I think). It really makes a huge difference.
The speakers on this TV are good..but the sound bar is really amazing.
I will definitely buy this later in the week.
The only other missing link is the Oppo 103(D) which is also on the shopping list.
Hope this post can help the tortured individuals who still have to make a choice !!!
AND FINALLY ....REMEMBER..Go first class, and so will your children !!
