Mine was just delivered on Friday (my new 65X850A), so I was well within my return window.

Here's something I found interesting:
For a long time I thought the Triluminos engine was completely controlled by the Live Color setting. It certainly appears so in Cinema Scene Select. However with it off in the General Scene Select (Picture Mode Standard) there is a discernible difference in color gamut from Cinema with Live Color off on both. Still don't know which I like better but I definitely like Live Color off in both Scenes.

Doesn't seem like something being complained about by actual owners so I may no longer care about that either. Constantly waiting for next years model just keeps me constantly waiting. Maybe I too wait till January to see what's coming and then buy this if nothing looks better. I'd expect it would be cheaper as the newness of 4K wears off and competition follows.

Let's not forget Gorrila glass would have been nice for those who have kids and feel that added protection adds value. Seems like Sony skimped on a few options to increase margins around the new marketing theme they labeled 4K. Might also explain why prices have dropped considerably since some of the hardware is not on par with prior XBR models. Not being negative and just discussing some of the possible facts.

I prefer to pay more and have all the bells and whistles that normally accompany a flagship product. It's almost like buying a Cadilac with a V6 because the fact it's a two door would make it sell. I want my V8 and dual climate temperature control plus all the other goodies that set it apart from the rest. Then again, this panel seems to be spectacular as it is and perhaps waiting to prices drop to its hardware provided might make the most sense. Black Friday can't come fast enough.

Yep I discovered that a while back. The General scene seems to have more over saturated colours, Either with live colour ON or OFF.

I've had the set 2 months and I still have not settled on settings. I still don't know if I prefer the Standard or Cinema scene or Live colour on or off.

Standard does seem to give more pop but Cinema has much better shadow detail.

The good thing is no matter which I use the PQ is awesome.

Yes. Standard does appear to do something minor to shadow detail and gamma.

I've had my set since June and I've pretty much gone back and forth on every setting. I was a late adopter of Warm 2, until I ran it through grayscale calibration- no choice then. I also settled on Reality Creation - Auto. I get a kick out of comparing picture settings and calibration- perhaps an unhealthy kick... wink.gif

It will only get worse when my PS4 arrives today.

I'm the same, Back and forth between settings, Even if its just one click here or one click their, It drives the wife and kids mad lol.

I've always used warm2 but sometimes I stray and try something different but always end up going back. Yes it does give a yellow tint but it makes colors appear more rich.

I have Reality Creation set at between 30-40 mostly. I've tried Auto but its a bit of a mixed bag, It all depends on the content.

One thing that's annoying me ATM is the arrival of the new Sony W85 65". Is it worth returning the X1 for the W85, 10 extra inches, Awesome input lag for gaming (I'm getting the X1 on 22nd), But I just know the PQ wont be quite as good. Ummmm!

Just took advantage of the price change. Magnolia AV (at BestBuy) has the same new price as the Sony website including the media player.

Now all I have to do is get it from the garage to my media room, take down my 52" XBR HX909, hang the 65X900A, and connect it. Now that I think about it, that may not be easy.

4k is not implemented yet and when it is apparently it will be for pics and videos but not games. However USB media is not recognized by the PS4 at this time.

Btw my impressions of PS4 on this set? Stellar.

Sony, a few months ago, mentioned that the UI would be native 4K, but that isn't the case (yet). When I got my PS4, I immediately went into the "display" options and tried to pick 4K, only to find the highest resolution choice is 1080p. Hopefully that 4K functionality will come at a later time.

I'm curious to see how the Xbox One handles a 4K set. They've made a bigger deal about 4K than Sony, so we'll see if they support native 4K UI out-of-the-box.

Guys

Has the non 4k version come out? The  Sony W85 65?

I want to get one...

I bet the PQ is just as good

Anyone know why CNET hasn't done a review of this TV?

I can't seem to find any professional reviews...

Not sure what you mean. If you were to do a search on "Sony XBR65-X900a Review", you will see links to Sound and Vision's review (used to be hometheater Mag), and Widescreen Review's article. Are these not professional reviews?

And what about this: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-xbr-65x900a/4505-6482_7-35661232.html

Looks like a CNET review to me. You been smoking something?

Sarcasm (the use of irony to mock or convey contempt.) is not always the best way to communicate with people especially if they are new. No need to scare them away.

That is not a review...

Maybe you should read what you post before you post:)

So, no, I am not "smoking something"...

And when I did a search Sound and Vision did not come up for some reason - neither did Widescreen Review...

I will take a look at them!

Thanks!

It is still odd that CNET never did one...

True that is not a review, it is a press release. IMO Cnet is not the best place for in depth reviews. Take a look at soundandvisionmag.com
post #3654 of 7375

This review gives it a 9.5 PQ quality. It's the highest

Darn!!

I wanted to get this TV for my son's room but it's only 120hz and has active 3d. I  really prefer a 240hz because he games a lot.

Guess I will have to see it anyway.

I just got back from Best Buy and got a $500 gift card back on my TV purchase. I was on the last day of my silver elite return period...45 days. I'm so glad you posted and I checked the forums this morning.

I don't get it.  You can't find two reviews by reputable sources (Home Theater Mag and Widescreen Review), and you counter with a shootout from some vendor in Scarsdale, NY?

Here is another review for you to consider:
