what's the point? are you really comparing a 9.1 set with tv speakers? this tv has a great audio set, but it's OBVIOUSLY incomparable to any decent home theater.....

The Sony Plasma that this 65/900 replaced had a built in subwoofer that was pretty darn good. That, up to the 900 was the best sounding TV I owned. When I had previous XBR's they were surrounded by more grile covers than you could imagine, but I still used the TV speakers for general viewing, Morning background TV, afternoon talkers, local and national news etc.

I'd then turn on the amps for evening drama or DVR, VOD viewing.

Same things now, but the 65/900 speakers sound better than anything before.

I do have a pair of Paradigm's I have tucked in for surround, so in essence, I do end up firing up an amp for serious programs.

Who needs Wendy Williams in 7.1? smile.gif

http://pages.em-sel.sel.sony.com/RegisterMy4K

or call 1-866-838-0421

On website it says purchase between April and July, redeem by Dec 31.
Not certain if offer is expired, but website is still working.
I would have thought the offer had expired. But as I said in my other post. I registered last week and got the movies yesterday.
Yep registered last night and my claim was approved earlier today.

Glad to hear you got in on it. I wasn't sure myself if they would give me the approval. Since my purchase date was late November, and I didn't fake it. I entered the true date of purchase, but when I read that you had til Dec 31 to claim it. I figured there was nothing to lose.

Came across this earlier. Just in case those folks on the other side of the pond have not seen it yet.

Yeah I didn't fake my purchase date either, and mine was back in October. Thanks for letting us know.

No problem. That's why we all come here, to help each other out.

Hello, I wrote a few days back about receiving my 65X900A and about how great it was. I also wrote about how (for the most part) simple the setup was.

Well I think I've run across my first snag. I can't for the life of me figure out how Audio Return Channel works.

I've connected the HDMI 1 of the 900 to the HT-ST7 (Sony's high end sound bar) and turned on the ARC functionality of the HT-ST7 but haven't been able to find any settings to turn on the ARC for the XBR-65X900A.

I tried switching the HT-ST7 to TV just in case it would just magically work without me having to do anything with the XBR-65X900A, but no such luck.

Can anyone that has successfully setup ARC on this set point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Thanks to all contributors to this forum for the wealth of info and help!

I am getting ready to order mine. Wondering if I should go through Somy direct or with the local BestBuy? I have always been happy with delivery of local BeatBuy and the fact that I can return within 45 days (in case price changes, or I have an 'extreme' clouding issue).

Yet it seems to be important to get a recently manufactured tv because of HDMI port 4 and being able to connect the media player. My chances are probably better with Sony?

What is your opinion?

I got my XBR-65X900A from Best Buy less than 2 weeks ago and the production date was early November 2013.  So stock at Best Buy at least in Mn is very recent production.

I would go with best buy in case anything is wrong with it. I doubt you'll get a tv without the update now anyway. Just my opinion. I had a very good experience with them.

^^^ Odds are you will be correct, there are just not a million of these sets around. With this being said, inventory is updating at a good pace.

My 65 inch has a build date of April, I had no issues connecting the media player.
I'm kinda hesitant to get the 4k 55 inch model because I'm worried it can't match the plasma tvs. I really don't like LCD/LED anymore and my last 2 sets have been plasma. I'm interested how it compares... specifically for everyday viewing and sports.
It's an excellent television. If you can afford it, it will give you terrific pictures. If you can go for the 65" version, do it.

I've clocked hours and hours of sports on the 65/900 TV without a single objection.

April build and your TV didn't require in home board install?

Nope. I was expecting to have to go through that, but when I went to the web site , it said I was good to go. So I went ahead hooked everything up, and it's been clear sailing since. The only thing I needed to do was get a wireless bridge.

I went from an old Samsung touch of color plasma to the 65x900a and the improvement was dramatic, it wasn't a high end plasma but still had a really good PQ. I just got the Panasonic 65ZT60 plasma and am looking forward to calibrating both sets and comparing them after I have finished the break in of the ZT60; I've had it for about two weeks and should have close to 200 hours on it by this weekend, not there yet but close. The level of detail on the x900 is simply amazing and the 4k content I have viewed on it is pretty ridiculous. Depending on the broadcast, sports look incredible and my movie collection has never looked better.

Hi,

I am in need of some input on which TV to go with. I am looking at the Sony XBR-55X900A and the Panasonic P60ZT60. How is the PQ on the Sony and how are the black levels can they compare to a Plasma? My normal viewing distance in 12 feet and maybe 9 feet when I am playing the PS4. I am really intrigued by 4K but hope it is not a fad like 3D. I usually only buy a new set every 6 or so years so not matter which tv I go with I need to be happy with it. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

4k is here bud and not going anywhere! And although here in Australia we are not ready for it they are in every major electronics store. Here in Oz most of our channels run at 576p lol. Some sports and movie channels are 1080p but. Prices on 1080p sets have dropped dramatically and with all the big boys with a 4k set for sale prices have dropped on them too. I keep saying it but 2014 will be awesome for new 4k tvs.

I love my 65" x900 and hope another similar model arives in 2014. But I may buy another brand if it has Display port 1.3.

Turn on Bravia sync in the channels and inputs menu. You'll have to make sure sound is on TV to toggle it, then you can switch it to audio system.

I know for sure that Sony Stores in New York removed all their stock and replaced them with the latest version of HDMI 2.0 with HDCP. So if you purchase from Sony Stores U R getting the latest, however, you can always open the box and check the date when u get delivery.

Are you talking about the HDMI-board of the XBR-55X900A and XBR-65X900A?

I'm looking at the menu, but there are two setting. One was along the lines of adjusting the brightness according to the scene selection, and the other concerned the room brightness. As I recall it was the scene selection nonsense that was the culprit.ttHh8k

I had the VT60 for a few months. The black levels will not match a plasma but they are very good for a non full-array backlit LCD. PQ is excellent and I think it's much more clear than my plasma was. I ended up having real bad IR/burn-in and will probably never go back to plasma as I game a lot.
