I agree with you that in Canada there is little you can do and that is why I bought a 4K Sony FDR-AX1.
So I have 4K content which increases day by day.
But there is a catch.
The XQD cards cost hundreads of dollars and once full you have to download the files to hard drives.
Once on hard drives you cannot play the 4K files on Sony 4K Tv's by putting the 4K files on a memory stick and there is no common computer to play them(hopefully the HDMI 2.0 upgrade allows you other options - I do not know what they can be)
Welcome to the life of an early adopter.

I would very much like to make Sony free (like Samsung and LG) the USB ports to play 4K files - like the files from my expensive $4500 SONY 4K camcorder.
It makes NO SENSE for Sony to block their own 4K Sony cameras files from being played on Sony 4K TV's..
Unfortunately Stupidity rules in big companies as they try to "protect" their content.

My 65XBR is coming next week and I hope to find that Sony has had common sense and has unblocked Sony from Sony.
But I am sure that I will be disappointed like you.
But in the meantime my own content will grow - which is nowhere like professional content.

Thank you and ashhos

Fortunately we found on the receipt we actually bought it on Nov 29, so still 1 day to go (and it was shipped 1 week later), half hour ago we just went to the store, the general manager said he would find Sony people to talk about the information I provided from that Sony doc, to see what can be done, and if no way to change it, we can return later even if the 30 day policy is passed then. I felt better.

The website for the Club Radeon R9 290X reads "Built in HDMI 1.4a with 2.0 support".

http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-r9-290x.html

Sounds similar to Sony's approach, it could be a firmware update.

Pretty consistent around the 45 to 58 fps mark. It was only 7 to 8 minutes of gaming though. But for 30hz it was very playable and cant wait till hdmi 2.0 comes out on a gpu or maybe a 2014 4k tv with DP.

Here is a 1080p gameplay video.

- not support for X1 player
- not support for streaming - meaning all 4K samples I saw on TV from YouTube app were actually not 4k
- not support for playing 4K contents through usb - so no use to download them from internet

so what use it has in Canada?

Extremely disappointed. I am finding a way to return it.

Just buy a computer that has a video card capable of 3840 x 2160, Im from Australia wink.gif

When I was at BB a while ago evaluation the different 4k sets, they were playing 4k material on the Sony (850 set but probably works for both) from a Sony supplied USB stick. That proves it is capable in some way. Does anyone have a copy of that USB stick and perhaps can find a way to get other content to play via USB the same way the Samsung folks discovered? I would think it should be possible. I don't own the Sony just trying to help you folks who do smile.gif

Thanks. I thought about that too, but wonder what this means in that Sony article:

•4K computer with an HDMI output (U.S. only)

Why U.S. only... the common sense is if I have 4k contents in such a computer and play them using the TV as another screen, I guess it should work.

Dont read too much into it, it works via hdmi, any computer will, but for optimum 4k playback you need a video card as described 3840 x 2160.

Guess i was peeved like you having to buy more equipment but to watch blu rays you need a blu ray player so a computer is no different

Thanks. The first day we were in BB to see the TV, I actually asked them about the material  ( (World Heritage)) displayed on the 4k TV in BB, if I can get it into a USB to play at home, they tried and failed to get it into USB. It appeared that they played it from a Sony Blu-ray player.

I tend to agree, it should work, just need to buy a new computer with the video card.

Hey guys I need some help. Using the video unlimited app on the xbr850 I'm unable to see the 3D movie selection. Is there a setting I'm missing? Also when I rent a 3D online with my pc on the video unlimited website my tv will not show the movie in my video library under the video unlimited app. Any help would really be appreciated.

Just wondering, I know this TV does not support HDMI 2.0 but does it support HDMI 1.4b ?

I know 1.4b is needed for 120hz 1080p as 1.4a does not support the bandwidth required.

Support for HDMI 2.0 was implemented with the most recent firmware update.

HI All, i am a lucky new owner to the 65 inch version and received the PS4 yesterday,TV to be received tomorrow i didn't dare to connect the PS4 to my current 32 inch Samsung LCD just waiting for the X9 to be delivered tomorrow,(the box is just lying there in the corner and am just staring at it)

whats the expectation with both sets working together? i read that PS4 will not support 4k gaming, only photo and video which is really weird from a company marketing 4k, they even invented the freaking name!!

was confused between the X9 and 850, decided to go for the X9 (passive 3D, Gorilla Glass corning, awesome look!)

any HDMI 2.0 firmware update?

whats your total satisfaction with its up-scaling capabilities (since no 4k content available)

sorry if my questions being answered already

Welcome, and good luck with your buys. I can comment on your last two questions. The newest firmware for the TV is 4.001AAA. As you go through the initial TV setup, it might require you check for updates. If it doesn't, once you've settled down with your new purchases, update the firmware and update internet content.

File Description UPDATE System Software Update - Release Date 12/19/2013 - Version PKG4.001AAA - File Size 159.85 MB Download

This software update (version PKG4.001AAA) provides the following benefits:
Improvements over version PKG4.000AAA:
Improved performance and stability of the Internet features
Provides HDMI® 2.0 compatibility (Applies to 4K models only)
Supports 4K 60p (3840X2160p (50/59.94/60Hz) YCbCr 4:2:0 8bit, 4096X2160p (50/59.94/60Hz) YCbCr 4:2:0 8bit)
Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version PKG4.001AAA:
Improves stability of the sound output with a Blu-ray Disc™ player using an HDMI connection

Upconversion of sources like 1080i cable and 1080p Bluray is excellent. Feed the TV a good strong signal and it really spruces it up.

Welcome to the club bud Sabidox!

I have the PS4 hooked up to the 65" X900 and it looks amazing! My mate came over and and nearly fell over when he saw the graphics, color, sharpness and the clarity of the image. Im used to a 4k image on mine because I use the x900 as a PC monitor. So the PS4 is a downgrade for me lol but I have to always think where we have come from with consoles with the old days of playing atari 2600 and commodore 64 and then the Sega megadrive lol. All i can say is it looks great and you'll fall in love with the PS4/X900 combo. Make sure you set the TV to gaming mode lol. And if you have any friends over you may actually have to tell them to leave at some point because they wont go themselves.

Other news I just got my 3rd 290x the other day and im really munching games now in 4k. So just waiting on the rumored hdmi 2.0 patch for the 290x or a non reference 290x to arrive with hdmi 2.0.

Ive had 3 Nvidia GTX Titan's and now 3 AMD 290X's and the 290x is on par with the Titans performance numbers and the 290x cost me $675 each compared to $1,299 for each GTX Titan that has no chance of displaying hdmi 2.0 in the future. Also I found there was slightly more lag with the NVIDIA cards with 4k res. Club3d website states the 290x will support hdmi 2.0 in the future. I emailed them to get further info but Im yet to receive anything back.

You can see the small ps4 tucked away under the tv on the shelf. My computer case is a nightmare to lift!!! Almost needs wheels lol.

Hopefully not a silly question.
I do not have access to the FMP-X1.

I think that it has a 2TB drive with a possibility to add an additional drive of ??Tb.

Has anybody been able to upload 4K files as shot with a Sony 4K prosumer camera ( XAVC-S in Mp4 format ) and play them back on a Sony 4K TV ???

Thanks.

I am purchasing a 65x900a from a friend but he does not have a stand. Anyone has a stand that they would like to sell. I don't have the space to wall mont

Greetings. I have the XBR-55X900A and have three questions:

(1) I have noticed that when watching some cable stations or a movie (using a PS3 as a player), the audio on my set is very low. I will have to go above 60-65 in volume to hear clearly. Change to a different source though and it's blasting. What gives? Any way to correct this?

(2) Is there a bass or treble adjust on the set somewhere? I cannot find it in the menu.

(3) Is there an option to hook up a stand-alone subwoofer to the set as an add-on, for some extra bass? I don't have enough space for a full fledged surround sound system, but would like more bass than the default speakers provide.

Is anyone else having any issues with the Sony Entertainment Network app on the TV? I recently exchanged the 55" for the 65" due to the half resolution 3D and noticed that I'm missing a log of apps. I can access Netflix, Hulu, etc., via Home > Applications, but I'm not getting the expansive list that I was previously getting when pressing the SEN button is not downloading. I can't access apps I remember like the 3D demos and the free Netflix/Hulu promotion app. I've upgraded the TV to the latest firmware and tried Home > Settings > Network > Refresh Internet Content, but it doesn't help.

-Sean

Edit - Answered my own question - somehow the TV's date/time got lost and it was set back to 1/1/13. After fixing the date, everything is appearing correctly.

The answer to both 1 and 2 can be found in the audio settings at each input. When you're on lets say HDMI(1), hit Options> Sound Adjustments> Equalizer (for bass and treble) or > Volume Offset (for adjusting level of source material.)

Remember each input can be individually customized with settings, unless you select "common" which transfers scene, audio and video settings to all inputs.

I recommend you update Internet Settings often. There have been instances in the first few 4K months where the network was down for several hours at a time. This hasn't happened all that much lately.

It appears that the X1 is no longer shipping free with the 65x900. It's gone from Amazon & Crutchfield.
I think the X1 was laden with problems and it was a move to flush the product with CES looming and all the above issues described. The beta testers who have one have shown Sony the chink in its armor and they are just trying to clear the channels of product.

Yes you can add a subwoofer but plugging it into the head phone jack on the back of the TV. Then if you troll around in the setting for the audio (something like "home"/settings/audio there is a menu that lets you set the "audio out" aka headphone plug for various choices.

I've been -very- impressed by the company called "Episode" and their 8' sub. Works fabulous. If anybody cares I'll post my TV equalizer and speak gain and crossover settings for that little guy. I got mine for $300. Best money I ever spent on AV gear

I know, for sure, on the Crutchfield website the free X1 offer expired on Dec 28, 2013 because I was in touch with them
post #4465 of 7249
Awesome, thanks for the recommendation. If you plug just a sub into the headphone jack and then set the audio out, will that continue to use the built-in speakers and just add in the subwoofer for its frequency range?

We bought the 55X900A. But it has not been delivered. I have a few questions.

Does the youtube app support 4k?

If not can you use youtube in the browser`/

Is the benefit of 4k seen at 55 inches?

While the headphone/audio out will work, unfortunately it is the weakest and lowest fidelity available. You're able to set the headphone level to fixed, otherwise on variable, it will track at the same level(s) you set your TV's speakers to. Does the subwoofer you're looking to get have a gain control on it?

BTW, did you see the suggested solutions to your two other issues that I posted several replies back?

I am using the headphone out, going to a Shiit magni amp.

I have both the Beats studio and the V-moda crossfade M1 headphones.

I can tell you the sound is amazing.

This tv has an on board DAC. The sound is much better than the sound coming from my sound card on my PC.
