Official Sony [X9] XBR-55X900A / XBR-65X900A Owner's Thread - Page 151

Since its about speakers, i ve posted this in another thread:

I was confused too (850 or X9) but went for the X9 65 inch, my concern that its much wider because of the speakers but i knew that the panel and built quality is of a higher end and the passive 3d is much more relaxing (specially that it can achieve 1080 per eye and this by it self is UN-heard off in the previous passive 3d sets obviously the reason is 4k..),

Looking at both sets the bezel on the 850 was also as disturbing (cheap plastic not stainless steel or other classy material) as much as the speakers on the X9, and active 3d is a deal breaker for me (had w905 and didn't like active, too much flickering, strain etc), the idea of one piece of glass (top, bottom) of Gorilla glass on the X9 was fascinating i wish they did it on the side and removed the speakers.

Now bought the TV and Sony rep. came the other day and installed it very nice, i knew i didn't like the speaker that much in the show room, it was very visible to me every time i went there but the biggest surprise is when they installed it and left... it was not that bad, even the wifey liked it and couple of days later we could hardly see the speakers, it tends to vanish with the background and in the evenings its just not there...so if you think the speakers are deal breaker for you think again

Regarding the TV performance i rate it level 9990000000 of wow wosssaaaaaa  ...its the set to rule them all, details, black levels, you name it.

850 and X9 are good TV's but X9 looks like an expensive 4k Tv that anyone can distinguish the 850 can be easily be mistaken to an w90, w80 well that's my opinion

Yes the 850 uses active 3d but other then that aren't the 2 TV's picture quality the same? The build quality might be different but I thought I read that the x850 and x900 had identical picture quality? Can anyone confirm that active 3d and no speakers are the only changes?
The Glass used on the 850 is different than the X900a. The 850 is contrast black and the 900A is coated with anti-reflective material. the 900A has passive 3D

Does anyone know if Bestbuy/Magnolia will price match http://www.alltimetvs.com prices?

I have $1,500 in Best Buy gift cards I'd like to use towards purchasing this set but the price from alltimestv.com is so much better.

Not a chance in the world.

BB will say they're an authorized dealer and ATT's isn't.

I need your help....

I am looking at the XBR X900A 65'' and i actually really like the design of the TV.

Not to mention the passive 3D is great, Here is the problem.

New it is $5,000

i found an open box one and they will let it go for $3900 now that is a good deal but i just remembered that CES is next week.

Will this TV get a price drop as a result of new models or will the new TVs be available for this amount ?

Basically is this a good deal regardless of CES or not really?

Or is waiting may be a better option although there is no guarantee this will still be available.

Thanks in advance

Hello, new member, long time reader at different times.

This post is specifically about some information regarding availability of the XBR65-900A that I have acquired today, and if anyone has any additional information on the same subject.

I have been interested in purchasing the X900 65" for a few months now, reading the posts here, and watching the pricing since October. My family room wall will need some carpentry work to accommodate a large mounted panel, and I have been arranging all of that. Today, I decided to check the Sony Store, and I was surprised to find that the XBR 900 was not there, at any price, as of today 1/2/14. Only the 55", the 65" 850, and the larger model show on the Sony Store website today.

I initiated an online chat, that I am posting below (a few things regarding names only are changed) :

Please wait while we find a Sony sales associate to assist you...

Welcome to Sony! My name is XXX and I will be your sales product specialist today. How may I help you?

Me:  Hi I am wondering why the Sony XBR####0A UHD is not in your store at this time?

Me:  The XBR ## ##0 A

Me:  The 65 inch XBR with side speakers, does not appear to be in your store, can you tell me why?

Sony Associate:  Hi! I am able to see your numbers, thank you. Numbers are masked for added security during this chat, and are never stored.

Me:  OK sorry

Sony Associate:  That is fine. I have good news for you! We have it available here on our end. Our you planning to mount the TV or place it on a stand?

Me:  If I buy one this month it will at first be on a stand, then later placed on a wall as I need some carpentry in my viewing area before it gets mounted. Why do you ask?

Sony Associate:  Yes, you can do that! The reason why I asked is so that I can offer the best mount bracket for you. :)

Me:  Ok, thanks, but I already have one purchased that holds large TVs.

Me:  I am still wondering why the ## ##0A is not on the store website? Is it being discontinued, serious question...?...

Sony Associate:  That is nice! I find it available here on our end. Let me place the order for you to assure you of its availability and delivery. May I ask for your full name, e-mail address, shipping address and phone number?

Me:  Do you know long you will continue to have them available?

Me:  I am still wondering why the ## ##0A is not on the store website? Is it being discontinued, serious question...?...

Sony Associate:  We do have them available. I am wondering why it is not showing on your end.

Me:  Thanks I am not placing an order today, it is good to know they are still available however, but only the XBR### #5 inch appears in the store, not the ## ##0A, so you don't know why?

Sony Associate:  I am really not sure why. Maybe because this TV is available but is limited in stocks but I can assure you of its availability and delivery. As a valued Sony customer, we will waive the shipping fee and I will enroll you to Sony Rewards where you can earn points in your every purchase that you can redeem in the future and use it as a discount, or if enough, use it to pay for the entire purchase!

Me:  Thanks, well what is the current delivered price on the ###A?

Sony Associate:  This was originally priced at $6,999.99 but is on sale. The price is down to $4,999.99 saving you $2,000! I suggest you take advantage of its availability and sale price.

Me:  Ok, thanks, but I am not purchasing today. Do you know or not know if this model is being discontinued at this time?

Sony Associate:  As of the moment, we have it available.

Me:  Ok, thanks, have a great new year, I may be back soon...

Me:  bye

Sony Associate:  Happy new year! By the time you are ready, feel free to chat and I will be more than happy to assist you again. Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?

Me:  No thank you, bye again for now...

Sony Associate:  If you have a moment, I would really appreciate your feedback on a 1-minute survey that will appear once our conversation ends. My supervisor gets all the feedback and we use it to help enhance our customers’ experiences. Thank you for choosing SONY Sales Chat and have a wonderful day!

So, I called the Sony Store, and spoke with a very good and knowledgeable sales person, asking specifically why it was not on the store website and specifically if it had been discontinued.

He said the following: It was a surprise to him it did not appear, the 65-900 was there recently as he had been away a few days. Checked with his supervisor, who he said was also surprised it was not there, that the website had just been revised very recently, and that they had no information as to why it was not appearing, perhaps it was merely a mistake or oversight, and that they were in fact going to now send an inquiry to the appropriate Sony department to inquire about it being absent in the online store, and that it still appeared as an available model to him for phone sales. And, he also said that they had been selling A LOT of the 65"-900 XBR series model.

(BTW, he said Netflix will be streaming 4k video, but that is another topic...  :-))

That is all I have, so if any of you have any more I and others will be interested. I have been trying to minimize the time a large box sits here waiting for a carpenter and dismantle/removal of a very large console projector, and hoping for additional price drops, perhaps after CES, but this might be a sign of the beginning of the end of this model? Appreciate any info anyone has about this development, if it is one. Thanks

I guess now that we've beaten the technology questions to a pulp, we turn to pricing as the hot topic.

John, Exactly who is the "they" as the seller, and did you see the set in person? Was the housing, the glass and the speaker area in good condition. Any idea of what it was used for originally? It could at this point (200 days in demo equals many thousands of hours) have a lot of time on it.

Not sure when Sony is going to refresh the model, especially since they just came out with the 850 series.
local Best buy is the store and yes i have tried it, i was trying to find something wrong as i tend to do with open box items and nothing i could find.

We hooked up a bluray player and tried a 3D bluray and standard bluray. They both looked great.

There is smudges but i can clean those up, Speakers seem to be fine and i normally would not consider an open box item at such a high price but it is a substantial discount.

One of the reasons i want this TV is because i am a fan of the design and i like the quality speakers.

Just need expert opinion and the TV was purchased and returned. They still have Demo Unit.

CES is next week so i can wait and risk losing this offer or just wait and see what is coming up.

The big questions is? Is this such a great deal that regardless of what is shown it is still a better buy today.

4 Pair of glasses are not used and everything is included.

There is a way to get the hours of use from the service menu. I posted the remote control combo that worked on past Sony plasma and XBR's but it didn't work on the 65/900.

Anyone know the service coding to bring up the tech menu with hours of use?
get them to throw in a 4 year warranty, and then it doesn't matter how many hours it has...

and who cares if the TV is discontinued; its great, its current technology, it has received several firmware updates, so stop obsessing over the obscure details, and start enjoying the best tv out now..

Thanks two the both of you.

I just checked the Sony site. It's here.

http://store.sony.com/65-class-64.5-diag-xbr-4k-ultra-hd-tv-zid27-XBR65X900A/cat-27-catid-All-XBR-Series-TVs?_t=pfm%3Dcategory

Are you referring to a different model?
There have been discussions recently about how to select a scene and adjust picture settings for the Neflix app. It was suggested that the settings might be adjusted using a different app, and that any changes might be applicable during Netflix session as well.

The best app I have found to do this is YouTube. With the YouTube app open, you have access to both Scene Select and Picture Settings. However, it is peculiar that some of the picture settings are grayed out and inaccessible. For example, Picture can be adjusted, but not Contrast. The default scene is General, but it was easy to select Cinema.

I also confirmed that the changed settings seem to persist when using Netflix. The original General scene was somewhat bluish and cold, but when I changed to the warmer Cinema scene, Netflix content was clearly changed.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Well , thanks, I am referring to the XBR65900A, and that is strange, because at the following address, which is the Sony Store for 4k tvs, where the page says "Shop the Collection" and the TVs are shown below on the store page, the 65" 900A still does not appear, as the online and phone sales reps both confirmed to me.

http://store.sony.com/4k-ultra-hd-media-player-4k-ultra-hd-tv-zid27-FMPX14KHDTV/BUNDLE/cat-27-catid-XBR-4K-Ultra-HD-TVs;pgid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?_t=pfm%3Dcategory%26pfmvalue%3Dfaceted

Yet, when I use your link, it is in fact there, and the heiarchy on the top of that page is:

Home

Televisions

Sony HDTVs

XBR Series 4K Ultra HD TVs

65" Class (64.5" diag) XBR 4K Ultra HD TV

  1. And, going back a step, it is also on that page as a displayed model.
  •

But, if you go to the Sony Store, and click on Televisions, and then 4K Ultra HD TV, which takes you to that 'Shop the Collection' page, it definitely is not there, at the moment anyway. The page I am referring to also seems to be a bundling page, offering the 4k media player also for $200 off.

This is making me think now that there is some error there, I hope, rather than an early indicator of discontinuation. That on some store pathways, it appears, and on others, it does not at this time.

But, at the moment, just going to store.sony.com, hovering over Televisions (or clicking it), then selecting the 4K Ultra HD TVs image that appears as a dropped down choice, and selecting it, the store page that opens up has no 65" 900A, whereas doing the same thing on the dropped down image just to it's left, called 'Sony HD TVs', does go to a page where the 65" 900A is shown. Strange. Both I and the store reps missed that.

Thanks for checking, any other info as to any significance of these disparate results is appreciated.

Unless I am missing something, try app like CELEB TV or TMZ.

Go to ALL Applications on SEN, load one of those ^^ pages, select an item to play, and once it's playing, you're able to adjust any and all values. (except Mastered in 4K)

OK, replying to my own post, the "4K Ultra HD TVs" drop down takes us to a bundle page with the media player, where the 65" 900A is not displayed.

It is still shown on the drop down page for "All Sony HDTVs", however.

This is confusing and poor website org, confused the Sony reps also today.

If anyone knows if/when it may be discontinued, please advise. Thanks.

I am still envying the 65 owners, hope to be one fairly soon.

Falconhawke,

I think you're twisting your own kishka, as they say in the bagel business. It is 100% their current flagship model, available on-line, in the Sony store and in all retailers.

Relax and have a schmeer.

With Netflix playing 4k content this year I finally want to activate the free year subscription. However, every time is go to redeem the code I get the error message, "Sorry, please try again later." Is there something special I have to do or is a call to Sony customer support imminent?

Thanks, I will, the situation on the website is now understood as I described in another post, but the reason for it is not. The Sony Store has a twisted kishka thingie, where the primary link to 4K ULTRA HD TVs does not include at this time the 65" 900A, and that seems a bit worrisome to me that does not own it yet, despite it's presence elsewhere there, for now at least.

Maybe the website managers have been schmeering too much...

Information and help needed.

Had 10 year old 50" SXRD
Replaced it with new TV - unusually the box said 65XBR90 (not 900A) and it was Made in Mexico - which came today (delivery and installation included)
The installers said it was made in November, 2013.

They unboxed it and did the setup.
At the beginning they used my Sony blu-ray S790 as a blu-ray video and sound source
They ( 2 techs ) did a lot of setup that I was not able to follow.
In the end the cable box and the 4K camera worked
But there was no longer any video or sound from the Blu-ray player being received by the XBR
Picture (and sound ) play on the old SXRD but would no longer play on the 65XBR(No video and No sound)
We tried different discs, all region discs, N.America discs - No go
Inserted a new Prometheus 3D disc and 65XBR said 3D signal detected - but no picture or sound or menu
They gave up after 3 hours

Any idea what happened and how to solve it ?????

My impression on the picture quality
HD channels are very good and I am happy - I do not have any recent HD TV's for comparing PQ.

However I am having serious PQ issues with playing my 4k FDR-AX1 camera files at 3840x2160 - I need to work on this tomorrow.
The picture quality seems to be much poorer than the HD cable channels.
UHD can be shot at a low 60mbps or higher100mbps at 30fps and at 150mbps if 60fps.
My first files are at 60mbps and once I realized the low bit rate I changed it to 100mbps
The files which were on the xqd memory card are not ideal but when played looked worse than HD cable channels.
They have connected the 4K camera to HDMI2 input because apparently it is the best HDMI input
I was under the impression that HDMI4 was the best input as it had been recently upgraded to HDMI2.0
They did a software upgrade and I presume I have the latest upgrade but I cannot see what version I have ( How do I check ? )

Thanks

Good luck. Having the same problem with my 850 and was wondering if anyone else was having trouble. I've been calling them for a week to at least have them e-mail me the redemption codes for NF and Hulu.

Hey guys,

Yes, my Wife and I just got our XBR-65X900A and we're pretty much blown away!

Question: Does the XBR-65X900A automatically upconvert all input to 4k (default), or do I have to set it to do this?

Thanks for any help.

Enjoy the television. It will do the conversion, nothing for you to do. If your Blu-ray player has upscaling, you can turn that off and have the set handle it.

Thanks Lee. I can't imagine how anyone would not enjoy this tv. I suspected it upconverted automatically, since everything looks fantastic. I have a new 4k Blu-ray player on the way, and was told by a Best Buy Geek that with the 4k tv, you turn off the Blu-ray upconvert.

Thanks a bunch for a speedy reply!

I've been -very- impressed by the company called "Episode" and their 8' sub. Works fabulous. If anybody cares I'll post my TV equalizer and speak gain and crossover settings for that little guy. I got mine for $300. Best money I ever spent on AV gear
