The decision to wait on 84's was apparently driven by the fact that we already have a 4K distribution device (the Dell). My info comes from a Sony Exec, not customer support.

I realize owner's like yourself are in "void" at the moment (no Dell, and no X1 support), but perhaps Sony will remedy that going forward. (I'll ask my friend at Sony, and if I learn anything knew about your position I'll post it here.)

Jim

Same thing I'm hearing. My guess is that they will come up with a solution by the time they launch "Video Unlimited".

I have an interesting problem that I noticed the other day and it has continued. When connecting to Netflix through the set I get to their site and I see my correct queue but when I click play I get a message, "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title." The problem is I cannot play any title I select I keep getting the same message. I can play these titles on my computer, ipad, and even through my Oppo player to the TV but not directly from the TV. All my gear is wired directly to a switch which is wired directly to my router all via cat6 cable. My internet speed is 50Mb via cable. I do not believe it is an internet problem obviously or one with my switch as I have changed the outlets without any remedy. I'm able to download youtube, 3D sites, etc. through the set without difficulty and relatively quickly. This is strange.

It happens. You must disable the device with Netflix and then sign in again. Netflix customer service will give you instructions.

This same thing is happening to me but I've gotten used to watching Netflix on the Xbox.
Well I called Netflix and you were correct I had to disable the set (by going through a sequential coding on my remote) and resign in. I'm back in business. Thanks for the tip. I hope this helps others who experience similar events.

Are there any Sony 84" 4K owners on this thread? We have a separate thread but I will use this one if there are 84" owners here.

paradise man, is the new 4K Media Player (the X1) available to be purchased in your country (I'm curious if the rules are different for that component)?

Jim
normally all new things would be released in the US long before it arrives to our region in my case “middle east” so we have to wait and see,i can buy it from amazon USA and have them ship it if i know that it is compatible, thanks a lot for your help.

I have Sony KD-84X9005, that's a European version of US 84" 4K. I live in the Ukraine, but local Sony never offered a Dell server or anything of the kind. I've bought in the US FMP-X1 (and I will get it here in about two weeks). I sent a support request to Sony, the local office assigned it the case number and resent it to relevant department. I am waiting for the answer.

that means that we both have the same thing regarding the tv,but what kind of support you are looking for from sony! is it regarding the hdmi ports change or what?
I requested from Sony the part number for the new HDMI board (to make compatible my TV set with FMP-X1), so that I could order it either here locally or in the USA in Sony authorized service center.
That's not a problem for me to pay for the installation of an HDMI board.

The Netflix Mambo:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up then deactivate.

AND I still can't figure out why Sony doesn't give you picture and sound adjustment option on Netflix and Hulu, but adjustments can be made on any other application in the entertainment package.

i was ordering it from amazon until i thought of reading some comments then i found that it is only for the 55” and 65” model and also some of them needs an hdmi upgrade to be compatible, but no one said anything about upgrading the 84” hdmi will make it compatible!!
In the Operating Instructions of FMP-X1 it's written, that in case you own XBR-65/55X900A you need to check HDMI jack configuration and if that is like in the picture or in any case if you own XBR-84X900/84X905 TV you have to contact Sony support.
If I understand correctly, it means, that all models of XBR-84X900/84X905 TVs require the change of HDMI board and only some older models of XBR-65/55X900A require the change of the board.

exactly,i have seen this manual it did talk about the 55” and 65” and mentioned the location of the hdmi 4 but the 84” section was empty! i understand from this that the issue is something else or otherwise they should have mentioned the same thing regarding 84”,the only way is to know from sony them self in my country they still have nothing about this.

Thank you for the sequence!

Regardless if you live in the "Middle East", Ukraine, UK or anywhere outside the US and have any of the Sony UHD sets or the VW1000ES projector, even with the right type of HDMI Port-4 HDCP 2.2 module, the FMP-1X media player will not work.

The only way you might get it to work outside the US is to set up an account via a US based IP.address, US payment account and possibly needs to load the TV with an US specific Firmware.
This so the Sony US verification service see the FMP-1X player, the TV and the payment as being in the US.
The reason for this has to do with the distribution rights of movies outside the US, which differ much from the US where Sony has all the rights.

The set-up of this is the same way people outside the US circumvented the Apple TV/iTunes before it was offered outside of the US.
It worked well for the Apple TV, but it is not guaranteed that it will work for the newer more restrict Sony 4K content service.

That is not good. Anyway, I will wait for Sony support answer. If bad luck, I will extract the hard drive from FMP-X1 and place it into USB enclosure and try to connect either to TV directly or to my computer, which I now use for 4K playback.

Sounds intricate. Any volunteers for an assisting scrub nurse?

In case anyone is interested, I got a phone call yesterday from someone in Lowell, Massachusetts representing the team that will come to my home on Monday (7/15/13) to do the HDMI board swap. He said I was his first call so I guess I'm tops in the queue. Anyway, he asked a series of screener questions to qualify my TV setup for the installation. Questions like; where the TV is mounted, if the table stand is available, if a wired internet connection is nearby, where the X1 will be mounted, etc... At the end of the script, I qualified and he said he would order the required parts so that they arrive in time for the installation on Monday.

Can't wait to finally get some real 4k content on my panel and make my hat box/hockey puck/Ring Ding work :-)

Oh yes please do!
I will love to hear what you encounter of content protection DRM and codec Eye IO use on this material .

For the U.S. based 84" 4K owner's, you will be supported with the same fix that is currently being given to the 55"/65" owners. There is no stated timing on this fix, but assuming you registered ownership of the 84" with Sony, you will be contacted as soon as they are ready to modify the 84's. Presumably, we (84" owner's) will taken care of as soon as the smaller displays serviced. The decision to do those first was made because we already have the Dell 4K Media Player.

As Coolscan already noted, not all areas of the world are able to get the 4K content in this manner because of existing content distribution agreements (not within Sony's control).

then we should wait for a european version of FMP-1X media player,i don’t think that sony well keep all other market alone without supporting their 4k market, but all we need is time, about the iTunes account you are right i am still using my iTunes us based account to rent or buy movies and i know a huge number of people outside USA using the same way to get into a US based account so it’s a big huge market over seas for apple, all you have to do is adding a US address while creating an iTunes account,i hope sony 4k media player be that easy also.

Hi all,

I'm starting to give up on the "Cheese Wheel" here in the UK.

Oddly enough my fabulous PC is in need of a repair which I will do soon. However do I understand that I can pump out the 4k content like "TimeScapes" straight from my PC into the TV? I have an appropriate Nvidia.

IF this is so:

[1] Would it show the full colour gamut of these sets?
[2] Would the Sony content become available for over a PC connection?
[3] I understand the PS4 will have 4k; so I repeat the first two points for the PS4?
[4] Will I still have to have HDMI 4 upgraded for either the PC or PS4?

I look forward to your replies biggrin.gif

Loving this Forum

Chris

I accidently started a new thread but I've copied it here

Sorry for my English, as it's not my mother-tongue.
As far as I am aware, only ATI HD77.. graphics cards are supporting 4K resolution (at least that was true at the moment I assembled my PC). Unfortunately I have no idea which kind of graphics is incorporated in macbook pro, but you could look in its specifications for its maximum resolution.
My computer has the following hardware: Motherboard - MSI X79MA-GD45, Processor - Xeon E5-2650, Win7Pro 64 bit, Memory - 32GB, Graphics - PowerColor HD7750 - 2 pcs. (one graphics card for video, connected to 4K HDMI port of my TV, the other one for HD audio, connected to HDMI port of my receiver Onkyo TX-NR609).
