Hat Chanel joints and IB-1 Clips

My question to the masses I have 23 foot wall. I am using 12 foot hat channel. More out of laziness I am not cutting just overlapping 12”. Due to 24” on center studs every other channel’s joint is on a IB-1 clip. This makes for a pretty stiff joint. Is this ok or should I cut the channel so that the joint is not on a clip?

The clip is not designed to have double layers of hat channel in it. The SIM for the IB-1 specifically states that the joints must fall between clips.

EDIT: Are you planning to put fiberglass insulation in those walls?

You made me curious, so I had to go back and check. Item 4 from the SIM. It's pretty easy to overlook stuff in these instructions. I pestered John and Ted to death because I was worried about overlooking something important. Fortunately, they are very patient people smile.gif Hopefully they won't mind me posting an excerpt from their instructions.
