Help Me Choose - Onkyo TX-NR818 Or Denon AVR-X3000?

Hi All,

I am wondering which might be a better choice all round - the outgoing Onkyo TX-NR818 or this years Denon AVR-X3000? They are both similarly priced here in the but I am wondering which offers the best features, expandability, options etc?

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other?

Many Thanks,
Bazzy!

It would seem that the 818 has more features and a better form Audyssey(XT32), but I would check out the dedicated thread for it to see if it has any issues from owners. Don't know a thing about either of these really as I have not been out of the hospital long enough to keep up current AVR's. Read dedicated threads for each and get feedback from owners. Good luck and enjoy the hunt.

Denon has a 3 year warranty vs the 2 years offered by Onkyo
The Onkyo has a phono input, none on the Denon
Onkyo has 8 HDMI inputs, Denon 7
Onkyo has pre outs if you want to add an external amp, Denon does not
The Denon is smaller and lighter than the Onkyo

If I were shopping on features alone, I'd purchase the Denon - on the other hand, the Onkyo has more places to plug stuff into it. Check reviews for both.

You'll need the warranty with Denon

Hi,

Thanks! Trying to compare the two now - which features of the Denon do you feel better that of the Onkyo?

Go with Onkyo. NR-818 is power powerful than X3000 (135watt vs. 105watt) and has better room correction feature (XT32 vs. XT), which are, for me, the key points to choose a receiver.

Put extra £ on speakers. Maybe the Onkyo won't break in less than a year.

I am considering the same as well as Yamaha new 830 vs 1020 closeout.
Seems like no single unit less than $1000 has airplay, MHL, Audyssey XT32, multizone digital, etc...
Still undecided...

Bazzy!

Probably the extra year warranty and the lower profile design...

Hi All,

Thank you very much for the input! I eventually went for the Onkyo - found a pretty good deal which swayed things somewhat!
