I had a quick question. Got a 65vt60.. Love the picture but the reflection i get coming from the other room is pretty bad. What is your opinion about the ZT. Are the reflections detailed or are they blurry reflections? I had a matte rptv before and it had the reflection of the room...it just was a light blob instead of detailed reflection.

While the ZT60 minimizes reflections, it certainly doesn't eliminate it from some of my viewing environment background lights at night. I think the panel really shines during the day in the way it diffuses natural light. It doesn't really blur reflections...more like subdues it to look darker IMO.

My ZT replacement came today! Haven't had time to set it up or even open the box. To my surprise the box wasnt pre opened by the delivery company before delivery... This was one of my biggest gripes not being the first to open it with my first 2 ZT's. Have my fingers crossed that its a quite picture perfect ZT!!

My first set was opened at my house by the BB delivery guys and it was damaged during shipping and would not turn on. I have no problem with the dealer opening the box to check for shipping damage!

They probably opened it because they dropped it somewhere before it got to you. Either at the warehouse or unloading it.

I don't mind them opening it as long as its in front of me.

So the ZT has a lot lessreflection than a VT?

The very purpose of that flap on the box is so the screen can be checked to see if any damage occurred during shipping. I'd rather they find out if the screen is cracked at the warehouse so they don't waste my time and theirs finding out in my living room.

Yes it has less reflection. The filter does a better job rejecting light which makes the ZT better in lighter rooms. Whether the degree to which it does this could be called "a lot" and whether the additional effectiveness is justified by he price difference are subjective and will vary by individual.

Almost all panels made today, even LED, have a glossy screen, one will get this no matter what display is bought to some degree.

Indeed, thanks Chris again for your help on the tv. Running great.

Ya so I have windows behind, and perpendicular coming from the right. There is a doorway to a bedroom directly opposite the TV, and if the door is open, the mirror closet there reflects light from the room directly onto the ZT surface.

THis is visible enough that I will close the door, or slide the mirrored closet open to avoid it.

However I only do this when watching something "serious", something i'm looking for the best possible picture for - a high quality bluray (holy crap Zodiac was amazing!) or anything in 3D.

But you know I don't ALWAYS do it. Heck, hell's kitchen or talking heads or whatnot? Not worth getting up.

ZT really makes even a directly-opposite reflection go to back of mind - there's this purplish veil put over it that is easily overcome by most bright scenes and I'd say for 75% of normal usage, not a problem. If you can though, this TV will do best with no light sources directly opposite it - here the filter really shines when light is coming from every other direction but right in front of it.

I was very worried about a TV that could handle a bright environment with my living conditions, and I'm pleased to report a really strong feeling that every penny spent on the filter was worth it. That purple veil really takes the edge off reflections and anchors the image in a strong degree of blackness even under demanding conditions.

Sorry for the sideways styles, y'all gonna have to crane yer necks:

My ZT from the front:

ZT head on

My ZT from the side:

ZT from the side

My ZT from behind:

ZT from behind

You can see praktik there in the mirrored closet...wink.gif

My blinds are drawn more from heat - we haven't always had them closed and dont feel it s a requirement unless we decide to watch some more "serious" content - 3D just isn't an option til night as the active shutters are intense even with the blinds closed (and worse with the sky in the background).

Anyway, gives you an idea of my environment - a challenging one for any TV and this one is the best of all worlds IMO - night is what counts anyway and to have it strut through each day like a champ, with two tv-aholics driving up the hour count significantly with the shining sun out there, is amazing icing on the cake.

Well heck I paid 4gs for it so I guess thats what I paid for.

Here is the reply I got today from the Magnolia Hi Fi
Manager:
I received a reply from my Panasonic rep regarding the fan noise that seems to be in a number of units:

"I have been informed late today that our TV engineers in Japan are working on proposed countermeasure for the fan noise.
The protocol is to then send the parts necessary to resolve the issue out to service departments in our network. The service departments will then come out in the field to execute the countermeasure."

So Panasonic is aware of the issue and is taking steps in correcting the problem. I do not have a time frame as of yet.

Did they happen to mention if the issue and impending fix is going to be on just the ZT or the VT as well? I've seen a few fan noise issues flare up on the VT60/VT65 Owner's thread as well.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that Panasonic is on it.

I think I saw somewhere that the ZT & VT have identical backs so I'd think what applies for one would apply for the other.

Thats what I was assuming as well, just wasn't sure if the VT was even mentioned.

In a dark environment yes, ZTs will be less washed out in higher ambient light however, so I think its safe to say ZT has "better blacks" in more viewing conditions than the VT

Same backs = same rear panels

Does anyone know what the panel brightness setting is in THX cinema? That function is locket out in the menu in that preset. Some are saying how panel brightness has black levels slightly brighter than in Mid panel brightness which seems to be what most reviewers are using for calibrations.

Thanks for posting your calibration comments. I've added a link to your post in the flat panel (post number two) lists that are linked in the signature area at the bottom of my post.

If you have further comments to make about your audio or video calibration, it would be great if you could use the edit command to add them to your original post. Enjoy. smile.gif

Does Dnice do audio calibrations?
