This ZT60 does have outstanding blacks.
And it does such a good job with reflections
Too! Mine looks better today. The first 24 hrs
It is a little fuzzy. I wonder how much it will improve
Over the few days?
Has anyone mounted theirs up yet? If so, what size screws did it take for the mount - M8x40? (I'm too impatient, want to get everything set up and waiting for it).
Got mine today - played with it just a bit before starting up slides (plan to run slides when not watching and at night for the next week or two). Amazing, deep blacks, fantastic picture. I could pretty much echo Yaomizzle's comments, and other similar comments. It does eat reflections. Gorgeous, sleek, simple design, for those that care about such things.
I had been mildly worried it would be too dim, but it's not; it's plenty bright (for my eyes, at least). I even set it to THX Cinema instead of THX Bright Room mid-afternoon and it was fine. Defaulting to that until I get it calibrated.
To answer my own question above, measured the mount holes with a toothpick and they're about 40mm deep, M8 size. Mounted with M8x40 screws and spacers.
Also, I am using CNet's calibrated settings right now. I like them equally to THX Cinema but they use a mid panel setting for brightness. Try them out. They are excellent! (I have a link to them on page 1 of this thread I believe- you will only be changing cinema mode, not THX Cinema).
I am having trouble finding where I saw this, but I remember reading recently (some article on the recent shootouts) that while measurements showed the Kuros with a measurement win, that the perception of black was still deeper on the panny's in some cases...
Thanks for sharing the pics! The black level looks fabulous on the ZT60. I think this year has definitely gotten to the point where it's diminishing returns as far as black levels. Once again, really nice pics! If I get the itch to go up in size from my pro 101fd, I would have no problems taking home a ZT,VT, or an F8500. Really good year for plasma lovers!
Immoros that stand is wicked awesome. Did you Build it yourself?

Thanks - funny, I'm actually replacing it with a stand from Standout Designs, the stand just isn't here yet. This one is an old stand from Crate and Barrel (Puzzle Entertainment Center). Discontinued now, I think. TV is mounted on a BDI Arena 9972.
So what is a scene from a movie we could use to test max brightness for our new panels? Kinda curious what the visual difference of the reported 45ish FL in thx vs the 30 max in professional

You'd be able to see the difference between modes on almost any snow scene (empire strikes back) although you would need a meter to see what the ftL output is. There can be differences between sizes and sets even in the same mode.
I actually just finished my first attempt at calibrating this beast. she's temperamental for sure. thank good for control cal. making just one little change is huge so being able to just do it quickly and see the results is a godsend lol
A few things. 1 I see why the shootout guys did 30fL in my experience tonight I found that the display can go to 33.x fL max in isf. It won't go higher. even at 100 contrast but it wont clip which is cool but it wreaks havoc on the gamma even at the 86 contrast I used.
Will need to do another pass tomorrow or friday now that im more familiar with the display. It came out decent. Gamma on the low end is a little wonky but over all its a solid first attempt. will post reports and settings later.
here are some pics. Please forgive the shotty phone pics lol will take some more later with my real camera of despicable me and kuro demo disc
these pics are showing more red then whats there bad camera
^I can imagine you'll need to redo it since you're only at 130 hours by my rough calculation.
Yeah I plan on doing a final calibration at about 400 hours. Right now it is just getting familiar with the display and getting it to my liking and will plan to have it dialed in at around the 400 mark. Plan on experiment with the peak brightness. going to try 31fL today and probably 30fL tomorrow. Thinking contrast will have to be around 75-80 maybe 81 but will see when I re run the calibration.
I need to see how bright custom can get. Might have to mess with THX bright also. Make one of those my day mode and then do ISF for my night viewing.
Sammie would you mind sharing your settings? Especially the final settings. I would
Like to try out several different people's calibration settings. Also, has anyone tried a bright room calibration yet? I don't love any of the built in picture modes other than THX Cinema so would like to have a few different options. A bright room one to try would be great (though due to reflection reduction THX Cinema and CNet's settings still look great).
Last night I watched Live Free or Die Hard in a completely dark room and literally winced at brightness twice with CNets settings so this TV is without question bright enough for me!
