This would also elevate return rates, at least slightly. I find it far more likely they have inconsistent quality levels in the fans or fan controllers that they use. I agree that you having 3 bad apples is significant, but you are making assumptions many levels deeper than your data supports. Also, free basic delivery should be included with any TV in MHT.

You are right, that is the reason I also mentioned my final mid-August exchange. By that time, the entire current inventory will be gone, and a new batch is received at the warehouse. Last time they checked, they had about 20 units left in the warehouse, and with current sale price, they should be gone faster. So hopefully, a month from now, the new batch should be here. If the new exchange is also having problems at that time, then my assumption that people have different hearing/room structure will have more bases and more data to back it up. Unfortunately, we have to wait a month and see the result.

EDIT: yes, the normal warehouse delivery is free, but if I knew the GS delivery only costs a little more, I would have gone for it instead of standing there and watching their power driver stripping the screws.

As far a PQ, this TV is quite superior to my Elite 60 it replaces. However I have seen weird things; subtitles get "broken" during fast scenes when the camera moves rapidly from left to right or vice-versa. I also see some "ghost" or whatever the name is, around some images, mostly around a subject. It looks like when the Predator is walking on its invisible mode. I have been watching movies on THX mode and also on Cinema mode with settings I found on this thread.

Do you guys think this subtitle and ghost things are an issue?

Thank you.

Did you purchase from an MDC, or an MHT? It should be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully this is something that Panasonic has addressed going forward. It's a shame to let even a small issue like this fester and mar the image of an otherwise great product.

I have purchased from MHT. Yes, I cannot agree more. This TV is great in all aspects, but with a tiny problem. We are actually enjoying the picture a lot. We still are amazed by the depth that we can see in normal Blu-ray disks, and even in animations like Madagascar 3 we just watched last night. The shadow details, depth, and bigger screen actually make ordinary 2D pictures almost 3D in this panel.

YIKES! Your composure about it is amazing. Although, I'm not sure why GS would be less likely to strip the screws. I was told the warehouse guys are also BB employees.

I decided to pick mine up at the store so I could get it a week earlier. I guess I won't be using a power driver...

Any tips from those who have set the TV up themselves? I need to attach the stand and set it on a built-in entertainment center. Do I need to avoid laying it flat and always keep it vertical? I have my wife to help me. She is strong like bull.

You should be fine just by following the directions to a "T" and using a manual screwdriver that is the correct size.

Turn off motion smoothing in the PQ settings if you haven't already.

Laying on its side on a soft surface should pose no problem...it will make it much easier to install the base if you do.

Thanks Speakerphile. By the way, I visited two different BBs in my area before buying. The Magnolia blue shirts in both were knowledgeable and helpful. If it matters to you.

Anyone know if the bottom of the stand has felt or something soft? Else I'll need to add that. I'll need to slide the TV back on my entertainment center once the cables are run. Don't want to scratch the built-in. Thanks.

MHT told me the installers should not use power drivers on the TVs. He said he had a customer who returned $7K Elite because of this fact. He told me GS installers use manual screw drivers.

The stand is fairly easy to attach. I've watched 3 sets assembled in front of me. The V shape piece is already attached to the base, so you only have to put the bracket on top of it and fasten 4 screws. Then you only need to put the plastic bracket on top, and use the small screw. After that you definitely need two people to rotate and hold the TV to attach the pedestal.

Now, I have seen two different methods by the 3 different teams smile.gif One of them completely rotated the TV, 180 degrees, and attached the pedestal from the TOP of rotated panel. That way, No body needed to hold the pedestal in the place, and I think it is safer for getting an even install. One other team, rotated the TV 90 degrees, and attached the pedestal from the right. This way, they needed 3 people, one to hold the TV, one to hold the pedestal, and one to tighten the screws. It is up to you which method you want to use, but the first seems more convenient. By the way, get a microfiber cloth ready, since after so many rotations the screen is going to have a lot of fingerprints on it that you have to patiently clean with the cloth.

That is great to hear. I know there is a lot of work going on right now to make sure that training is major priority in MHT locations.

Regarding the stand, I don't know for sure, but would assume there are at least little rubber feet on the bottom.

Is there a difference between MDC and MHT when it comes to purchasing an item? Is one better than the other?

No, but the inventory shipments are separate, which was the context under which that question was asked.

FWIW. The MDC sales teams are on commission though. Some people feel that that gives them increased incentive to take care of their customers. MHT sales teams are shared with Best Buy home theater and are not on commission.

No problem with subtitles with my ZT60.

What are the "base settings" for those who have calibrated their displays? I will be using Chromapure and an i1 Pro/Display 3 combo (and hopefully control cal).

From what I have read thus far, Gamma = 2.4 and Panel Brightness = Mid. What mode(s) are getting the best results? What settings do you suggest I turn off?

Most critical viewing is done from blu ray/.mkv's played thru a PS3/HTPC (MPC-HC, madVr) connected to a Denon AVR 1713.

Thank you,

Think it dropped to 3199 for the week.

EDIT: in store only, online prices won't update to reflect. I had to go to BB/MHT to get my price match. I called the store before hand and the verified the new prices. Online was still the old prices.

They may have quickly realized that there are still so many people within the return period, and they cannot refund everyone.

Went to my MDC today. $3,199 was price for wed to sat. Today (sun) went up to 3,499. (Prices for 65zt60) Though my guy at MDC said he didn't know how long that price was going to be at. It was a non advertised drop.
$3199 is a steal of a deal for a ZT, even less than the f8500 (which I currently own). At the risk of looking really crazy, I must admit when the price dropped I went and exchanged my 8500 for a ZT. So it's back to Panny for me, part of my decision to go 8500 was the ZT's $4k+ price tag that I couldn't justify with the fan issue.... Now fan noise or no fan noise I couldnt say no to the ZT for $3199. I'll live with the fan noise! I'm glad I got to try the 8500 out and now I can say for myself that I prefer the ZT PQ and style.

So, when do you get the new unit? I am very interested to know if you will have fan noise again. My theory is those that experienced the fan noise, will always hear it, but I don't have enough data yet. Let us know. BTW, 8500 is a great set too and has its applications, but I agree that at the new price ZT is perfect.
