That's what I thought, it is usually source related not the tv. Same with HD channels, some are spectacular while others not so great. Enjoy your new set.

Just as I thought. The gamma on THX Bright room makes the picture look washed out and if you cannot make it higher then I wouldn't want that mode calibrated.

Vinnie,

BB is offering to sell the ZT60 65 as the low price of a few weeks ago and claimed they would match ECT on other sets. If true, ECT has the VT60 65 really low now.

I know you have your ZT and are liking it. But have you ever got a chance to really look at the VT vs ZT filter in a normal day lit or night lighting (basically the non-cave lighting that most folks use all the time)? I would really appreciated your perspective on the ZT's better filer might be worth 800+, if they do match ECT prices. A delta of around $300+ and I might just try the ZT 65. But if really big savings, the VT is looking really good. And is supposedly on the 65 about 5 foot lamberts brighter too.

And I really don't do much serious day viewing. However the ZT did look very good and hate to lose that option. But most serious viewing is normal room lighting and for really good films, just the basis lighting behind the set.

Thanks. Looking forward to your opinion.

The ST60 is the only model I have seen locally and only at Best Buy unfortunately (I'm not near a large metropolis). The price delta was not that wide when I decided on the ZT60, especially after that discount I procured thanks to your referral. If I was purchasing today, I in all probability wouldn't pay anymore than $500 extra for the filter.

Thanks. How much better was the ZT over the ST? I assume a lot.

As good as the ST60 looked at Best Buy, it did look a tad washed out in the store under the lighting. I am certain the ZT holds its black levels better in the ranch-type living room environment in which I have it placed. I should have checked out the VT60 at the Grand Junction store (much larger, and I am sure they had one on display), but with such little sleep and the anxiety to get it back home safely, I didn't think of it.mad.gif

I will be taking advantage of the SilverRewards Calibration within the next week or so, but the Sammie perspective may be as good as it gets.

Just input the settings and agree 100%. Looking fantastic on my 65ZT60 , using pro 2. I guess this is the real deal, better than THX Cinema.

Hey, thanks. Like you at the time the VT vs ZT delta price was not that big a deal. Going to BB later today and see if they really would match ECT on the VT60 65. Gosh, if they do, I guess I can live with the fan noise (after the fix) and having a bigger screen too. And just wait for OLED to settle out.

On size, I missed this one- thought the 60in would be plenty big in my room. All those 2:35 letterbox movies just kill it. LOL

As far as the Geek Squad calibration goes, I wouldn't waste my time if I were you.

Thanks man I appreciate it. I wanted to try and be as descriptive and possible. Always could of added more like what a key controlcal was but I forgot. Also wanted to link stuff to the owners thread, Panasonics site, controlcal's and chromapure as well as the GCD calibration disc and AVS709 disc on this site. Was an after thought though and didnt have time to get around to doing it

The reason it says main is because that is basically just an xml export from control cal It list the base main settings when you go into picture as main in control cal.

All calibrations I did were done in Pro 1 or Pro 2. Also the pre calibration measurements were from the first pass. So basically I have 2 reports. The pre pre, without anything done and then the 2nd calibration where the pre was the first pass calibration.

You said it...if you're sitting 9 feet out at least, 65 inches will be ideal. I'm around 10 feet out and I'm already fiending a 70" OLED. wink.gif

Just got my ZT60 on the wall.
Ran a few blurays thru it and it looks awesome! Had a VT50 that developed a bad buffer board after a year, so BB offered me a swap.
Can't wait to get to my weekend and put this baby thru the paces smile.gif
Received A00179.

So the settings in your review are the 2nd calibration? Is there any difference between Pro1 and Pro2?

Thanks,

Sammie, I will give your settings a try and compare to the CNET settings (which I have been happy with to date). You seem to be getting a very vibrant picture - I'm not sure how much of that is the image processing, but those screen shots look absolutely fantastic!

A couple of observations:

Pro: Thanks to your effort I can finally appreciate the new pure red phosphor this panel boasts - incredible

Con: Poor camera work is now painfully obvious

Awesome job Sir; thanks again! (+1)

Studio Reference Quality; indeed!

It's not as if these people who have the burn-in/IR are using it exclusively to watch cable/satellite, but having a fraction of viewing (say, 33%) reserved for such content should not be an outrageous expectation.

I'm probably close to 400 hours now, but I'm actually a little concerned about the Notre Dame kickoff next Saturday that my father will be coming over to watch.

Hi Vinny,

So how did the ZT hold up to the NBC logo or other stationary images during the ND game? Thanks.

PLEASE... Need a quick help here - I just got it today and use it in place of my previous plasma monitor with windows HTPC.

1. Never had any experience with 3d and the glasses which I got with my panel have some red and blue squares in the middle, that are disturbingly looking like they are there on purpose? REALLY?

2. Now the other question - my older 10th gen plasma monitor worked as a charm via DVI in pixel per pixel mode. This one seems hard to setup for a HTPC monitor. Really having problems reading webpages in full HD (much better clearer and sharper in 1366x768 resolution) - which also was a bit of a case with my old 50" plasma but not as much. This TV seems to refuse to turn-off some overdrive circuitry despite all my setting changes... Any idea?

3. Who can best calibrate my display in Chicago area or is there a place to download some premade presets like for camcorders and where? Sold my Eye1 Pro so cant do much myself I guess...

Also just FYI, my TV is getting replaced due to the fan noise and also intermittent chirping (refrigerator buzzing noise) - called Panasonic and they said to replace it 1st then they would send a tech out if there were still probs. Can hear it from 10ft+ away even for quite a while after disconnecting signal to the TV.
Also to those scared of burn-ins, please DON'T worry, I ran my previous plasma for many years mostly at windows desktop and after 720psome of first gens it's a NO-ISSUE

Thanks a lot in advance for any hlp.

lol... they did, looked like I was ripping sth apart in the first place... any idea for most readable desktop fonts in Windows...?
I scaled windows fonts up to 125% and used some clear type - can read now OK but still think these should be sharper. 1080p direct 4:4:4 is it for PC? Seems to have no effect...

Thanks for hlp so far.

One of the big uses for me when I did have the ZT60 65" Version was to use it as a monitor for my computer games. One thing that did not look very good was desktop text and text in general when viewing web pages. I did the same as you and increased the font size and all and nothing really improved it overall. The increase in the font size did help, but it still did not look right. Gaming via the PC was fine, but desktop use was pretty bad. But I had also tried a 70" Sony 550a and it was the same on that set. I tried every setting in the menu's, even turning on some of the picture enhancements to help clean it up and in the end there was nothing that helped the IQ in the desktop. Again, gaming was fine. I did tried 1080p direct and every one of those options but nothing helped.

I hear you, I did somehow get to the point where fonts are "pretty" readable - and it has to be in the settings which do not change when you change picture mode (right now I am in theatre THX mode and it seems so-so) but I will post more once I get to know the screen a bit more - I love the picture in movies no q about it...

Yeah, I was able to get it to so-so as well. lol. Yes, IQ is pretty damn good on the ZT60, it is a pretty amazing set.
