No, as most. I like the Zt for picture depth, blacks, smoothness and color accuracy so far. Samsung for bright room and punchy detailed picture. I like both and am fortunate to have them. Such a hassle to return the ZT when really my only gripe is loss of a little brightness compared to the F8500 and some minor fan noise on the ZT. Really both are great panels and i beat myself up over which one to choose and still doing so. In the end it comes down to preference of the type of picture that is most pleasing in each environment and the content you watch.

Which blu-ray calibration disc do you recommend for this set?
If you want more than the Wow disk offers then go to spearsandmunsil.com. I have an audio calibration disk from aixrecords.com. It's title is AIX Records: Audio Calibration Disc, HD Music Sampler.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think that I will get both Disney WOW and Spear & Munsil Second Edition since they seem to compliment each other.

Is AIX Records Audio Calibration disc still useful if I am already getting Disney WOW and Spear & Munsil Second Edition discs?

By the way, I am getting my audio through optical, so I am stuck with plain Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1.

I am also considering buying Antec bias lighting http://www.antec.com/soundscience/hdtv-bias-lighting.php. It is around $20 on Amazon. There are two things about the Antec unit that give me reservations though. First, it rated for the HDTV that are up to 60 inches, so I am not sure if it is powerful enough to work with my 65 inch ZT. Second, it uses sticky abrasive to attach to a back of a TV. I am thinking about attaching it to a wall behind my ZT instead to avoid messing up the ZT.

Do any of you guys use bias lighting with ZT?

I not use but it look interesting, i just check it and do you think we must buy 2 kit for a 65" for 1 on left and 1 on right side or up and down ?

I am not sure, but I will just get one if I decide to get it.

My ZT is arriving on Monday and I am looking for opinions on the need for break-in. This TV will be in the family room and used mostly for HD cable channels, Netflix and an occasional Blu-Ray in 16/9 format. I have a projection unit in the media room and this is where we do our critical watching of almost all most movies.

I never noticed any issues with image retention and/or burn-in on my Kuro (It is going to another room, not being replaced). If there is clear evidence that break-in is needed and will result in a more enjoyable experience, then it will be done. Opinions I have read so far seem to be all over the map. Here is one example that says that break-in is not needed:

Yeah, I was in the same boat as you. I read that article as well as many opinions here and elsewhere. I eventually decided to run as much full-screen content as possible during the first 100 hours, and then again through the next 200. I did not run slides, but I did leave the TV running overnight etc. (to help speed up the process) with 4:3 content on repeat stretched to full frame and overscan on. I did test what would happen if I lost power (TV would come back on but not the player, so no problems). I did watch movies at original aspect ratios during the first 100 hrs, and didn't worry about anything except how gorgeous the picture was and the DVDs that I now would have to upgrade to Blu-rays.

I had it professionally calibrated by Chad B a few days ago (my sound system also) and couldn't be happier with my TV. (Sound system is now amazing too - I never heard it like that before! But I digress...)

You will of course receive other opinions. It's your TV, you decide.

$600. I'm in no rush, as I already have the 103, and I would rather not add another device (I prefer to keep it as simple as possible).

I am really looking for facts, but perhaps this is one of those areas difficult to quantify? I suppose it would be wishful thinking to suppose that objective A-B tests have been published?

I don't know of any double blind studies. You'll just have to decide who's subjective opinion makes the most sense to you.

Yeah. And Panasonic is also considerably bigger 65" to 60"!!

What exactly does game mode do? How does it speed up processing if everything is already off? Can i just leave game mode enabled for all content? Or does it affect picture quality? I notice its effects considerably when off or on.

Had my ZT60 delivered Monday AM (25Nov) from East Coast.  Was pretty darn cold (for a changed climate) and delivery guys said it was in their truck overnight ... well below freezing.

They unboxed it and plugged it in ... you could hear the relay click, then a second or two later another click ... and nothing.  No buzzing (that's good, except no picture either).

I'm an audio gear nut since the 60's, owned lots and lots of electronics over the decades, and I've never had a failure right out of the box like this ... maybe it froze to death ???  (actually, there's a whole school of audio lunatics who swear by cryo freezing their gear!)

You gotta love that black level -- the screen was as dark as squid ink -- absolutely nothing!  A black hole (pretty darn expensive, but what a black level!).

We dug out the mini remote ... no help.  Nothing.   Not a fracking thing.

We unplugged it a few times, clicked the power up button on the right side.... nothing.  But it was dead quiet (except for the relays), and oh what black levels!

Anyway, after an hour or so of fooling with it, they re-boxed it and put it back on the truck.

I'm out several thousands of bucks ... but East Coast is in the black  !

I have to say ... if I were an art collector I would have been happy to have such a beautiful black rectangle hanging on my wall...

the thing really is beautifully built.   If only it worked....like ... showed a pretty color picture ... even a still picture.... even a

BLACK  and white picture ....  I like film noir ....

Thing is, my 2-year-old Samsung 8000 is on the Fritz  (has that thing with the darkening from the top down, then the distortions and vertical lines on the right side ... and the darn remote keyboard never linked up -- a real piece of ship it is ...Samsung ... they make washing machines for crysakes !   but I searched it on the overweb and maybe I can replace the do-hickey ... it's a known problem with Samsung LEDs .)

... so I'm left watching my 8 -year-old 50" Panny monitor, which is flawless, even though it's only 720p.  Looks great with the Oppo feeding it.  No buzzing either ... 'cept it sticks 14 cm out from the wall -- kinda in your face.

I digress ....

... but you gotta love how black I feel about the ZT60 !

No wonder Panasonic is leaving the plasma business .... they get worse with experience.

Buyer beware:    don't accept delivery without checking to see it the darn thing does something besides

NOTHING !

You should have bought it in Aug. Did you not wait for the set to get to room temp. It does have some real nice blacks thou. You will enjoy your replacement. smile.gif

Realpetew:

It sounds like you had condensation in the TV. electronics need to sit at room temp out of the box for a while to thaw and dry out. As an audio fan, I'm surprised you did/t do that. Whenever I get gear that was shipped in the winter, I always take it out of the box and let it warm up for at least 3-4 hours to avoid any possible condensation.

Geez, that's too bad about your delivery experience. Good thing you were smart enough to hold the delivery guys until you could check the tv for damage/faults. While your experience certainly isn't funny, your post about it made me chuckle. Good post. Hope you get another unit that is flawless. Good luck.

I have an OPPO BDP-95 connected to my ZT60 via HDMI and for a while I was using the "source direct" output mode and while I couldn't fault the picture I decided to try setting HDMI output to 1080P. After doing so the picture did look just barely sharper than source direct but to my eye identical otherwise. Then I went into picture settings for HDMI 1 and increased sharpness to +1 (no other adjustments) and wow, the picture looks wonderfully sharp but in no way exaggerated or unnatural.

Can anyone comment as to whether or not having someone come out for the foam fix ever made the fan noise worse? Reason I ask is mine isn't bad but it is noticeable so I am fine getting it repaired but don't want to come out of it worse off wink.gif. Also, for those who had buzzing looked at. Did any particular type of repair done ever help? Thanks in advance.

Good news ...

Took delivery of replacement ZT60 this AM (29 Nov.)

Plugged it in and it lit up immediately.

It's an October build... the previous one ( was DOA)  was July.   I guess the October builds can handle the cold weather.. ; )

Really don't like the intro screens at all ... wonder if there is a bypass for all that crap ??

Just realized that the wall mount for the 50" Panny is way too small for this monster (65") ... guess I have to go shopping.

Meanwhile ... the wife is out shopping ... and I haven't told her. ....   this is pretty hard to hide....

I'm hoping that because it's Black Friday   (gotta love those blacks !)

she will give me a pass.

Oh oh .... I hear the car ... she's home  .... I'm caught !

Took delivery of my 65ZT60 today. I purchased it from Cleveland Plasma. It's a June 2013 build, #A05155. Physically the unit is in good shape with only a very minor scratch on the center of the top metal molding and a couple of very minor dings on the back panel both of which can only be seen when extremely close (no strucutral damage). Of course no one is going to be looking at the back of the TV except me rolleyes.gif. Looking through the vent holes on the back there appears to be foam between the fans and the back panel. Since this is a June build and according to various reports the fan fix didn't begin at the factory until August I am going to assume my unit doesn't have the fan noise fix. If I recall correctly from my reading of various threads on this issue, the fix places foam between the fan and the inside panel that separates the PDP from the mechanicals and electricals. Hopefully this unit does not have the fan noise issue.

I am letting it come to room temperature before powering it up. I will post an update once it's powered up.
