LED TVs are
LCD TVs. Both types of TV have the exact same type of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen. The only difference is that "LED" TVs are illuminated with LED chips (usually around the edges of the screen on all but a few models) where traditional LCD TVs are illuminated with CFL backlights behind the panel. "LED" TVs are marketed as being different and even superior to "LCD" but that is intentionally misleading. Edge-lit LED is actually inferior to backlit LCDs and are cheaper to manufacture and the TV buying public falls for it.
No TV is good with direct sunlight shining on the screen, so you may want to consider buying an inexpensive LCD or LED LCD and blocking the afternoon sun with an inexpensive Levelor Solar Shade from Lowes strategically located so it blocks the sun when lowered.
