It's true, those features are gone. If you want to play without discs you need to buy everything digitally.

I think if they drop kinect, they still have to undercut the PS4. The PS4 has more power in the box, so they couldn't just go with the same price.

I'm actually slightly disappointed they changed it before release. I wanted to see how poorly it sold, and to see the actual requirements on the sharing, I guarantee it wasn't going to be as lenient as people thought it would. Before changing policy to get people to actually buy it. The 1000 people that like these "forward thinking ideas" weren't going to support the business.

I think this reversal is an indicator of how poorly it pre-sold.

More I think about it this really is a next gen console war. It was fought and decided 6 months before the consoles were even sold. =P

Lets start bets on how long this takes to happen. We shall see, when the pre-orders do or do not pick up here. The bare bones model will be incoming.

Man this news really sucks for me. I was really looking for to what Microsoft had proposed and this seems like a huge step backwards. If Microsoft had not let this story get ahead of them and controlled the message we could have had an awesome system in place. They should at least allow people to Opt In to the 24 hour check in system so that you can do the family share/not have to play a game with the disc in the drive.
Are there any predictions that this console is going to be sold out during the Christmas time frame? Should I preorder right this second, or can I wait a few months? Thoughts?

I'm probably going to ask the same question on the PS4 thread because I want one of those too...lol

If they are going to change the DRM policy. I have no doubt a $399 Kinect-less version is next.

Price is always a bigger issue. And the $100 difference really is something that would cause the "average" consumer to choose one system over another.

Really? You know this to be true? Academic question, really, because now we will never know. Then again, I'm probably just brainwashed for thinking the family share idea was progressive rolleyes.gif

Gone from Xbone to Xbox180...sigh

7 to 1 ratio is what gamestop manager told me in Mountain View, CA last Thursday.

Yeah I can see how some people may like this feature, and them totally removing it, is another bad move. Why could you not still implement this on ONLY digitally bought games? It would certainly raise sales of the digital games.

All of the DRM could be left in place if they just use it on the digital games.

I probably quoted the wrong post the feature I was referring to is the sharing.

I haven't gotten to read the last couple of pages yet. But I'm PISSED that there reversing this! Looks like I have to cancel all my pre-ordered games to go digital only and loosing many features because this digital system was going to be more flexible, but now it can't! mad.gif

Thank you, hardcore gaming community for sending us to the PAST! mad.gif

Bravo Microsoft. Now if you can make the Kinect not required to be plugged in. And if that is possible make it $399!

But I am now considering the XB1.

I doubt it. I think the connect is too built into the system. They would be changing the architecture too much. They can drop the price 6 months after initial launch and still keep it required.

I wonder if the douche bags at Gamestop suddenly have Xbox One's for pre-order.
I would love to see a $399 kinnect free verison

Or a more consumer friendly future. wink.gif

They really should be able to offer a $399 system without Kinect now as well.

A few of us in here have shared the optimiism for family sharing in the last half hour. I do wish this was expressed more (myself included) prior to the policy changes. I hadnt yet wrapped my mind around how'd me and my 'family' could best take advantage of it. The possibility WAS intriguing.

Wondering if/how an opt-in policy could be offered

Guess I am glad to see the free-market still working. This decision most likely was a result of looking at pre-order figures and having to make business decision. They failed as salesmen ....then let the blogs and internet run wild without trying to make their case and are paying the price now. It never looks good no matter if you are right or wrong when you are forced to cave to your competition.

Gamestop salesman = used car dealer.

If you believe what they say. Then you deserve the opportunity to shop there.

And for people like me to laugh at your decision making lol

I have zero doubt this is what caused them to change. The gamers spoke with their wallets and MS had no choice but to listen. Part of me would have loved to see, just as an experiment what would have happened had MS held firm, how epic the failure could have been for them.

MS thought they had control and they were proven wrong big time.
So how does this affect the instant switching capability? How would you watch a bluray movie and switch to playing a disc game you bought if the disc has to be in the console? Something doesn't seem right here unless that feature is reserved now for digital downloads. I guess it's a way to encourage people to buy their games online although now it seems that feature isn't as impressive as it once was. If not why include it? If you don't include it why need the dual OS? One change and it effects more than what people think. MS needs to clarify this point.

At the end of the day, it's money that talks and not hardcore gamers, I'm sure Microsoft seen just how badly they're doing with pre-orders along with the huge negative feedback that forced them to change their minds.

Am I the only person who thought the family share plan was an obvious damage control attempt that wasn't even well thought? Abuse is written all over it and I highly doubt publishers would have been happy about it.

"In addition to being available in retail stores, Xbox One games will still be available for download on day one and will be playable on any Xbox One console."

What more could people who want "disc-less" gaming ask for? Day one digital release for every game is an awesome option, add an option for pre-loading the game like steam and it would be perfect for them.

Yup. My friend who manages a GameStop is gonna be pissed when I cancel my 4 game pre-orders so I can get them digitally. OH WELL!

But the DRM was a great feature!

The Internet Requirement was a great feature!

Lol ironic since not clarifying stuff is what forced them into this position in the first place.

Kinda disappointing that we'll never know if the game library sharing was going to be as easy as people were hoping.
