In my eyes this is a big step backwards.
This is so true. To me, Microsoft had a HUGE advantage over Sony with the sharing plan. Now, they are both on even footing, except that the Xbox One isn't as powerful, and Microsoft doesn't have as good of a first party. Yeah, I know they are buying all the exclusives right now, but that ain't gonna last forever. Naughty Dog and Santa Monica both have something cooking for 2014, and we already know Infamous Second Son is going to be huge. So really, the only true advantage that the XB1 had was the sharing plan.
The other huge advantage is the no disk in the tray thing. Now that is gone too. To me, these were the biggest advantages of the XB1. So now, it's more of a head to head battle. We all know the PS4 is a bit more powerful, so they don't have the advantage there. This is really disappointing. I seriously went from having plans of having two XB1 systems at launch. One of them was going in my den to be used only with my 10 people sharing club. The other one, was going in the living room, to be used by the whole family. I'd be in a different sharing group with that one, under a different gamertag. I mean, I was going to buy two of these things, and I also would have had to buy my kids certain games for the living room one. So I would have been buying a whole lot of Xbox product this November, but all that went up in smoke.
None of the launch games are sensational enough to get me to jump on board. I recently watched a next-gen Madden video of actual gameplay, and let me tell you, it was extremely disappointing. I had huge hopes that a Next-Gen Madden could be a killer app, but man that game looks very 360 to me. I don't see next-gen when I see it. In fact, for most of the video, I thought it was a mistake, and it was showing the 360 version, but when they did a real close up with the instant replay, it did show a tiny bit of next-gen to it, but man... very, very disappointing. There was no night and day difference at all. I need something to be truly compelling to force my hand.
The way I see it, I might as well just play Watch Dogs on PC and watch all the drama from the sidelines, until one of them has a game I can't live without. Infamous is definitely that game for me, but that thing could be delayed till June 2014 or even later. You know how those things work. Some of these games are getting delayed, and you never really know which one it's going to be.
