I think if it was viable, they should still implement something like it for DD only. Give people what they want and help drive the adoption of DD. Choice is good!!!
Could have been viable but maybe with some restrictions like
a) there were more restrictions, like having to wait a few months before a new game gets to be shared
b) publishers could opt out like they could with "used game"
Under the original plan the publishers\creators would have been in the revenue stream for "used" games and that may have made up for it. After all lots of people borrow\rent\buy used now and the publishers get none of that, under the origina MS plan (it seems and assuming renting would have been added at some point) the publishers\creators could have been in two of those that they had not been in before.
It still would not impact multiplayer games that much (or 4 man coop games)...and it seems thats where everything is headed now anyway. Also "free" to play games are on the rise, the more people borrow the game the more have to buy their own DLC (I would have assumed).
