Ohtehnoes.. how could that be true? The internet said MS is only buying a single Gateway Intel Celeron server off ebay & planning to run 300,000 virtual machines on it.
Atleast that is what some in the AVS thread would want you to believe.
I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with you in this thread.
The people who think MS doesn't have 300,000k servers are just being ignorant IMO.
MS, Google and Amazon don't release hard numbers but there are estimates, although the data is old. Back in 2009 it was estimated that Google had 900,000 servers while MS had 280,000. Amazon was only estimated to have 40,000 at that time. I'm sure that MS has well over 300,000 servers by now with there Windows Azure project underway and Google is no doubt north of 1 billion. Amazon is estimated to have 450,000 now: http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2012/03/14/estimate-amazon-cloud-backed-by-450000-servers/
The 300,000 number just never seem that far fetch to me.
With that said, MS has not said that MP will be completely hosted on dedicated servers. Go back and watch there reveal show and E3 press conference, they never say that and have not said it in any interviews since. It has all been speculation by some sites/blogs about what the 300,000 servers could be used for. Maybe all MP will be on dedicated servers for XB1 but, my point is that MS has not said a thing about it yet, no mater what devs or wired.com say.Edited by rolltide1017 - 6/24/13 at 7:31am
