being forced into a position where you have to sell 5 PS4's to every 4 Xbox One's just to have equal revenue is already putting you behind the 8-ball. it's called leaving money on the table.
I agree with you...to an extent.
An Ipad sells for $500 when you can get a much cheaper tablet that runs on android....yet people are buying the ipad like they are going out of style.
However, how they really make money on consoles is by selling games after the fact.
It does look like Microsoft is taking on a much different strategy compared to Sony as they already have games announced that will be free to play....I have not seen anything like this with the PS4 so if someone knows anything about this please let me know.
But with free to play games being supported Microsoft is opening up a market that Sony does not have, at least currently...
They have revenue coming in from many different directions with their consoles
Console sales(if any money is made)
Free to play games( I imagine with something like Project Spark they will let people sale the game they made and take a cut of the profits) other revenue streams associated with this gaming model.
indie games publishing
I am sure there are others that we dont know about. But think about it, at the BUILD confrerence MS announced that Project Spark is cross-platform with W8 so you can build levels in one system and play on another, they are going for a much deeper experience than what we are used to where we can create games and publish them ourselves....
But from experience the XBL service far surpasses that of the PSN...by offering a higher quality product they could attract more customers to stay with them.
Apple computers are not the forefront of computer hardware technology but they are always implemented in a way that makes the computers on the large part, better than the competition.
But none of Microsofts strategies will work if they do not get good games developed that take full advantage of the system.
Only time will tell who will be the more successful system.....
I look forward to seeing what happens and will be judging which system I go with by the information that will be coming out over the next few months and possibly wait until another year has gone by.
