Amen to that!

Have they released the exact Kinect dimensions yet?

I know the length and depth are the same, but i think the new one is like 2" tall where the old one had a thinner bezel.

I was surprised when I saw the comparison vs the initial pics of Kinect 2. K2 definitely looks very sturdy

Someone earlier in this thread posted pictures of someone holding the edge of the same piece of paper with writing on it up against both versions of Kinect and Kinect 2 was significantly less wide.

EDIT: The pictures were posted by onlysublime in the Xbox One Kinect thread, in this post. Reposted below.

Kinect 2 is definitely not as wide. I'm just wondering about height. I have very limited room above the TV and don't want to block the remote sensor at thebbottom.
Kind of hard to tell for sure in those pics because he is right on top of Kinect 1.0 but the 2.0 is back behind the glass. There could be depth perception issues with the 2nd pic. 2.0 definitely looks smaller but I'm not sure if you can tell exactly how much smaller using that pic as a reference.

I was listening to a podcast and they brought up another positive for digital. No sales tax. So I was thinking of getting the CoD preorder. exactly how is the preorder bonus going to work?

don't forget that the kinect1 had a motorized base which significantly added to the height of the kinect. kinect2 doesn't have that base any more as the tilting mechanism isn't needed any more due to the wider FOV. so while the body is taller, the overall height is less.

True, but I assume that the guy who posted the pictures thought that it was a good indication. I've posted similar pictures and when I thought there was a problem with angle and depth I noted it. . Looks like the Kinect 2.0 was locked in a case that the guy didn't have access to.

onlysublime, what was your source for those?
I don't remember the source of the pic. reddit? not sure. it doesn't matter. the pic is legit and you can see for yourself at any Microsoft store. Heck, I would've done it this weekend but it's a Diablo weekend with the brothers in town. We're not leaving the house.

the height of kinect1 with its base is 2.5". the kinect2 is less. if you can wait, I'll bring a ruler to the store next weekend! tongue.gif
post #7965 of 14765
It's incredible that no one seems to have published precise dimensions for the Xbox One and Kinect 2. Numerous journalist have had demo models in their hot little hands and apparently none of them thought to whip out a ruler. It'd be one of the first things that I'd have done. Microsoft must have some explicit embargo on the information. That British kid in the IGN video puts the console on the table with a 360 Elite and 360 S but doesn't line them up or show them stacked or any of the things that I would have done. He takes a Kinect 1 and compares it to Kinect 2 without turning one of them over and stacking one on top of the other to show the difference the width of the front or place them next to each other and touching to demonstrate the difference in height. I wanted to reach through the screen and smack him rolleyes.gif.

Actually, I've had to pay tax on everything since they got rid of points. Kinda' surprised me.

that sucks. I'm thinking I'll stick with discs for the launch titles. get digital for titanfall for sure and decide on a case-by-case basis.

still interested in digital for CoD but I'd like to know how the preorder bonuses are handled with digital titles.

Is it possible that the sales tax is only for some states and not others...like other e-tailers?

Sorry it took me awhile to circle back to you on this one. I don't follow this thread much any more. But you can get the test on Verizon's own website. I think MS has one on their site too. There are a lot more comprehensive test sites out there. Just Google Internet speed and Bandwidth tests. also call Verizon technical support and complain that you are having big discrepancies between what you're getting versus what you're paying for. They will do an online tech evaluation or send someone out. And the problem will likely disappear.

It must be. I got worried there for a second when I read that post. So I just checked my most recent purchases from my 360's and it doesn't show any tax being charged. I'm in Virginia. It was bad enough with them switching from points to dollars. Making my purchases cost alot more than before since I got my points at around a 20% to 30% discount. If they start charging the 6% VA sales tax that would be even more of an increase for me. So if the tax also won't apply to the games that will make the digital download cast a little less than getting them at retail.
The "astronomical sum" of three whole dollars in tax isn't going to get me to make the switch from discs that I can resale or share to digital. The few DDs I purchased in years past were only bought because something wasn't available on disc, like extra DLC content. Of course, once I scored 50 orders of 1200 MS points for $5 each a few months back, thus giving me 60,000 MS points for a measly $250, I've got some buying to do...especially now that MS has decided to turn my points into dollars that have to be spent soon. That said, I only buy extra map packs (like the Skyrim stuff offered last week) when it's on sale. Unfortunately, MS rarely has anything good during these sales.

Honestly, I'll never understand why everyone seems to cry their eyeballs out over taxes, particularly those in CA. Unless you're making a monster purchase like spending a few thousand on a new TV, it barely matters.

Why particularly us? 7.5% state sales tax seem really light to you or something?

Hi.

I'm wondering if the Kinect2 connector is the same as the Kinect1 propietary connector on the latest Xbox 360. In my HT Room the only piece of equipment I need to have in front with the TV is the XBOX 360. All other AV stuff is way back in the room. I wish I can move the Xbox as well but I need the Kinect1/2 to have 20 feet of cable. Probably the person that design the cable lenght did not think of us with HT rooms.

Any ideas?

If you're asking if they're including 20' of cable out of the box for a small minority of their customers, I think it's safe to say that they won't be.

Just like with Kinect 1.0, you're going to have to investigate extension cables if you want that sort of setup.
I'm not saying they should include the 20' of cable on the box. But at least give us the option to buy an extension cable for it. The only extension cable from a third party that works is only 9 feet long.
I'd expect MS and/or some third party manufacturer to produce such cables, but I wouldn't expect it any time close to launch. As I said before, at least now you can use the console without it.

You could alternately place the Xbox One and Kinect front and center and run HDMI cables to it, as a temporary measure.

No, it's just that with every single deal that I've ever seen (which is a ton, given the thousands on SD daily) the folks in CA are always whining about taxes.

Normally, you only pay taxes in states where that company has a retail presence. If there's a retail Microsoft presence here in Alabama, it's the first I've heard of it. But sure enough, they've charged me tax lately. I found that kinda' odd. And it's also selective, apparently... because I got taxed on games that I bought, but not on the last DLC for Dishonored, which makes me wonder if they're differentiating between the two. It's very odd.

Either way, not a dealbreaker. I'll go digital for multiplayer titles that I know I'll keep playing for a long time and get random invites for, and single player stuff that I'll beat-and-delete, maybe go with discs.

Whether you spend $5K on a TV or $500 or $50, tax is a percentage. It matters the same no matter what the cost. 10% is 10%, 6% is 6%. It makes no difference what the cost of the item is. It matters exactly the same no matter what the cost of the item.

I can't remember the last time I didn't pay sales tax when buying something digitally. If you're exempt right now, enjoy it while you can...
