Other factors account for the perceived difference in quality between these two types of sources but those don't make a seating distance chart any less valid.

This is gonna be another one of those "go back and read what I said moments", and then you'll realize that I was never disagreeing with you on the part you keep harping on. smile.gif

That's true, and it comes with a hardware cost. Would you take a 1080p render with no anti-aliasing over a 720p render with 8xAA at identical frame rates? What about 900p at 4xAA?

Got it, so when somebody doesn't agree with you it is time for personal attacks and accusations. Pretty pathetic. I must be Captain Gregg, BD2003 and Captain Eo.

A bit weird that I've disagreed with myself on this forum at times. mad.gif

Kind of like that post you wisely deleted earlier? Calling me pathetic is a personal attack, so good luck with that one... I've been on the internet a long time and the appearance of a new account supporting an argument is an oft used tactic, though people who employ it tend to fail to log out of their accounts and expose themselves. I thought it was suspicious and sarcastically asked whether it was you or BD2k3. There is no personal attack there and I'm not accusing you of anything. Question =/= accusation.

Depends what kind of AA we're talking about, and what type of game it is.

If it's SSAA, that's kind of a crazy comparison, because 720p 2X SSAA is basically just downsampling 1080p. 720p 8X SSAA is like downsampling 4K, which isn't realistic anyway.

If it's MSAA, I'd prob take the extra resolution and run, since it barely works with modern deferred engines, and doesn't do anything about transparencies, texture crawling and shader aliasing.

The post process stuff can be pretty good and so fast it's basically, but it tends to blur the image, so I'd prefer to have as much resolution as possible to begin with. Doesn't do anything about temporal stability either.

My personal favorite is TXAA, which performs pretty well, and completely eradicates almost all forms of aliasing, but it blurs the hell out of the image. Much less of an issue if you have more pixels than your eye can see though.

In pretty much every case I'd prefer not to break the 1:1 pixel mapping of native resolution, regardless of seating distance.

Exciting news today from our partners at Toys “R” Us – Xbox One is honored as the exclusive video game console on the Toys “R” Us 2013 Holiday Hot Toy List and one of the Fabulous 15 Hot Toys for Holiday 2013. The Toys “R” Us Holiday Hot Toy List provides parents and gift-givers insight into the toys sure to appear on children’s wish lists as the holiday shopping season gets underway.

"Identifying the toys that will make the Holiday Hot Toy List is no easy feat. It's something we take great pride in – ensuring that the toys named with this distinction are truly the toys that kids from all corners of the country will be most excited about," said Lisa Harnisch, Senior Vice President, General Merchandising Manager, Toys "R" Us, U.S. "All 36 playthings named to this year's list were chosen because they're undoubtedly HOT, from Cra-Z-Loom, one of the most buzzed-about items this season, to Xbox One and tabeo e2, which are generating a ton of excitement before they are even available in stores. As kids begin scribbling their wish lists to Santa, parents can feel confident that with the Toys "R" Us Holiday Hot Toy List in hand, they have the inside scoop on what will help make their kids' wishes come true this season."

Thanks to our friends at Toys “R” Us for this honor. Parents and gift-givers – start your holiday list-making!

Not splitting hairs but it really sounded like he (Jeff) was down on all the showings he'd seen. It was the 8/27 or 9/3 episode. It's getting the "it's a launch game" pass.

That's hilarious ! Are Xbox fans supposed to be proud of this, or embarrassed ?

I love how they squeeze a $500 console in between $20 toys. I'd think the Nintendo 3DS might of been an infinitely better decision to put on a Toys R US must have list.

How much did MSoft pay them ?

Gah. I trust those guys. If Ryse isn't any good, I'm not sure Forza is enough to justify Xbox One on Day One for me.

I have both consoles pre-ordered, and I really want to buy the Xbox One. Seriously - I'm an early adopter and buy just about everything gaming-related on launch day. But with PS4 a week before and strong PC gaming, I'm struggling justifying this pre-order. redface.gif

I'm sitting out both for now. I have the itch but will remain strong. My PC will get me through until next E3.

I am usually an early adopter too, but I cancelled both my pre-orders this time. Neither one has shown me something I have to have on day one that isn't avaliable on current consoles, and with as much fun as I am having with GTA and Diablo, I see no real reason to rush in. Let the consoles come out and see which one I want to buy first and make my primary console.

When I was at Bestbuy today exchanging my Roamio Pro, they had a couple of 4k TVs and an OLED Tv which is still 2k. Even at twenty feet away the detail from the 4K TVs with native 4k content playing was amazing. I've ne Dr sen so much detail. It certainly looked much better than the OLED TV that was smaller but also much closer.

That was my thought too. The XBOne is certainly a hot item, but the PS4 is a hotter item.

It's all marketing. Like the GTA PS3 stuff. "Hey we'll give you some TV money but we need that jingle at the end of the spot."

there have only really been 2 demonstrations for Ryse. the first was what they debuted at E3 which was what got criticized for the QTE on-screen prompts. the second was the debut of the multiplayer. they did not create a new demo for the single player since the E3 demo. they said they didn't have time to make a new demo and all time was devoted to finishing the game.

Then that's all he needs. It's not ringing my bell either but that's cool there's plenty out there that is.

I'm rolling the dice on Ryse, despite what some of the podcasts are saying. I have a feeling there's more to it than what we've seen, and the backstory stuff in the interactive comics they've done is actually pretty intriguing. At the very least, I'll burn through it and pawn it off on someone... but I'm sure it will at least make for a good graphics showcase for the Xbox One. I know that people are always down on launch titles, but I quite liked the launch titles for the 360 (yes, including Kameo and PDZ)... and I'm looking forward to checking out the Xbox One in action. Fortunately, Forza 5, CoD: Ghosts, BF4, Watch_Dogs and Dead Rising 3 are enough to justify my purchase otherwise... and 7.1 surround and that sexy new controller. smile.gif

I'd love see more sp and I hope it isn't a QTE fest, have some real gameplay. If it isn't ready for launch they should take their time until it plays great.

The PS4 is not in the "Fabulous 15". It's in the stuff under "You've seen the FABULOUS 15, now check out the rest!".

I'm all for the XBox but the only requirement for getting on the "Fabulous 15 list" is cutting Toys R Us a FAT check.

Does the most wanted console usually get out preordered 2 to 1 ?
Hey--I'm not ascribing any significance to being on the Toys R Us' FABULOUS 15 list, just saying that PS4's not on it.

More prominent exposure than your main competitor is always good.
