Not sure if you're just joking, but assuming that you're actually serious, I don't know why anybody would cancel their preorder. Unless you only have enough snaps to buy one console, and you decide to jump ship to PS4, or maybe instead you go down the deep, dark road of being a PC gaming enthusiast.
If you have the money to buy both consoles, there really isn't any reason to give up on the XB1 now. Whether we are like it or not, we're going to be stuck with this hardware for at least the next 5 years, so we might as well deal with the reality. Basically the worst case scenario is that the XB1 is the next Sega Saturn. The Saturn and the PS1 went head to head in 1995, and at that time, nobody really knew that Sony was going to pile drive Sega into the turf. Most folks at that time thought it was a relatively even battle. Of course, hindsight being 20/20, we all know that the Saturn was a mess of a console design, overly complicated and outdated before it ever hit shelves.
Still, if you never owned a Saturn during that era, you really missed out. I'm sure there are gamers out there that just had a Playstation, and they never got a Saturn, and they probably don't think they really missed much, but there were some great Saturn exclusives that they definitely missed out on. Some great games.
The same thing would happen with the XB1, even if it's a total disaster, which I don't think it is. Even if we assume that the XB1 will be a disaster, it still is going to have 20 to 30 exclusive games that will demand to be played. If you don't own a XB1, you're going to look at these games that come along, and wish that you could have experienced them. So why not buy both ?
Also, I think the idea behind waiting for a price drop is pretty flawed, unless you're a really, really patient guy. I just don't see any pricedrops until 2015 at the earliest, and that is a pretty long wait. So no need to cancel any preorders, unless you're strapped for cash and decided to go with PS4 as your only next-gen console for now. If you choose to do that, then I can't really blame you, because if I was forced to only have one, that would be the one that I would pick as well, just cause I might as well go with the higher powered console that's a bit cheaper, but still, I don't know how people just jump into one camp and totally forgo the other side. I like to play ALL the games
