I wouldn't expect it to run more than 10W watching TV. The majority of the chip will be powered down and what's still active is probably idle most of the time.

I have strong doubts that it can power that far down; I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if it can drop lower than 50W. There's just not enough added functionality over and above my TiVo to justify using even an additional 10W while watching TV. But if you can see yourself snapping Skype or IE while watching TV your mileage may vary.

EDIT: anandtech.com estimated 20W when fully idle. EDIT EDIT: Someone from MS said here that it uses 14W in it's waiting for "Xbox On" command state (not outputting video or audio) and that it uses less than .5W while in its lowest idle state (probably waiting for IR on command with everything else powered down).

There is little if any advantage to video watching on the Xbox One if its Kinect isn't plugged in, drawing power for its cameras, IR blaster and microphone array.

I too have an Xbox Music Pass, though I lost the 10 free-per-month at some point; it may have been when I switched to buying year passes.
That's why I never went to the year music pass since I didn't want to give up my 10 song credits each month. I have a tendency to buy one album every month on CD to rip to MP3. With the music pass and free credits this broke that habit since generally they had that album 99% of the time and the credits were good for it. Sometimes I would have to over the 10 free credits and use points to purchase the rest of the album. Now with no points I'm kind of hosed and will just have to use multiple months to pick up one album if it is a big one (movie soundtracks can be huge in this regard 20-30 tracks)

Lol this is exactly what I'm doing also! Xbox One has a place reserved on top of my HD-DVD player cool.gif

Burning 14W while just waiting for the voice command is absolutely absurd.

Has anyone preordered any digital downloads for the One? Is this even possible yet? I've tried on Xbox Live and then get tossed over to the Microsoft Store and then get an error message. They're offering a $10 digital gift card on Forza, for example, which is kinda cool. I'm having a hard time finding any info on this. It's probably my ADD kicking in after a long day of analysis paralysis.rolleyes.gif

A cable box burns more than twice that when it is off. Not that I disagree with you.

At least the cable box is DVRing. This is just burning what would be almost $30 a year at my power rates. That's almost as much as an XBL sub!

you know, after reading/watching the huge amount of stuff from IGN and then the same for Polygon, now I understand the purpose of embargos. It's just amazing to see so much information at once. It feels like the days when Apple announces something like an iPad and you see page after page after page about the iPad (drives me crazy since I'd like to read articles besides the iPad!).

because the problem with getting it piecemeal is that you tend to forget. some really great information was shown months ago but most people forgot the stuff. you'd see someone ask some question that was answered many months ago but you forgot it because it was a single piece that was months ago.

IGN recaps their thoughts on the launch lineup:
Funny you say that, as it's true. MS doesn't owe people anyone anything, but that being said, it is nice to have loyalty recognized with something.. I like what they are doing here. It's pretty cool. IGN 's article said they were looking at life of XBL use (e.g. years as member), gamers score, and other unidentified factors.

I am not going to lie here, I got an e-mail this AM that my wife saw on our family computer as I was at work. She called me and said I had won an Xbox One. I was like "BS", and got her to forward it to my work. Alas I could not open it properly so I went to my car and checked it out on my phone. It had the phone number to call and a code. A picture of the Xbox One with Forza 5 was in the email under the saying. "Consider Yourself Gifted. All Free. All Yours". I still thought "what's the catch", alas I called and 40 minutes later everything was confirmed, and I got a confirmation of the "pre-order". The copy of Forza 5 will be digital and I will get instructions closer to launch or on launch day.

I'll be honest, I am still in shock. I have a day one edition already paid for and ready for pick up. The only things stopping me from cancelling it is the shipping on my 'free" one that I won is not confirmed to be here on launch day and I kinda want the Day One achievement and controller.

I am seriously wondering how many they gave away and who got what. I know a friend of mine got the Xbox One, Ryse, DR3, Forza 5, Zoo Tycoon and 12 month membership XBL. Oh, and a Xbox Music Pass too. What level prize you get was totally random.

Anyhow, it's been quite a day for me as I was at a Special Reception at the first Microsoft Store to be opened in British Columbia tonight and my 7 year old son got to play the Xbox One tonight. Boy was he excited.

Cheers all,

Outtie

Congrats! Good to see someone from here get one. I was hoping I would win one since my dumb ass friend took his time on getting his pre-order in, and he has now missed out on the launch system. I would have given him my pre-order and I would have gone with the free one. Atlas it was not meant to be.

MS have stated that you don't want to plug a console into it. Too much lag.

Ecological responsible! Funny. How much energy went into making that Roku 3 when you already have multiple devices that do the same thing? Or you leaving your TiVo on 24/7? Ha!
As far as a $$ stand point lets pretend that the x360 uses 103.5watts while streaming. 0.1kWh * 4hrs/day * 365days * $0.095kWh = $13.87 a year of savings using the Roku. Would take ~7years to make your money back off the Roku. If anything, the Roku 3 just gives you a better reason to never turn it off. biggrin.gif

Yeah I have been trying to see if its possible to pre order DD yet but no luck.....keep either getting error screen or taken to box/disc order page. frown.gif
post #9319 of 14792
There is no way to pre-order Xbox One digital games currently.
I guess for launch titles does not really matter since w/o hardware there would be no advantage (i.e pre-downloading, etc) but I hope they work it out going forward for pre-orders. Otherwise with the number of people this gen that I think will be opting for DD for new games the download servers on a games launch day will be slammed.

Congrats. Would loved to have been one of the ones to receive this. I already got my 3 paid off. A 4th would have been a great present Xmas present to give away.

Well damn, that's walking the walk. That's more faith than I'd have in any company, I hope it works out, cause that's a hell of a lot of money to invest up front.

Are all the game reviews supposed to pour out on November 12th, or do we really have to wait until the 22nd for the reviews?

After the "metric ton" of info came out yesterday, I might be getting a few more XB1 games besides BF4 than I had first thought, DR3, Ryse, maybe even Frorza, that game looks BEAUTIFUL and my 2 year old LOVES cars and racing cars, he would get a big kick out of Forza.

Quick XB1 question - So, I don't have Xbox Live Gold, but my kids do. Now, I thought I heard somewhere, that if one person has Xbox Live on a Xbox One console, then everybody that uses that console also benefits from the Xbox Live Gold features. Right ?

If this is still the case, then do I need to put one of their gamertags as the primary guy on my XB1 ? How is this going to work exactly ? I have no plans to get Xbox Live Gold myself, but since my kids already have gold, I might as well piggyback onto their service and use it until it runs out. Just not sure how it all works in terms of adding the various gamertags to the system.

YES, if your child's account with gold sets the Xbox One as his primary console, you will be able to use all the benefits of the Xbox Live Gold account with your Xbox Live Silver account. So that means you will have Xbox Live Gold services on that console.

They haven't fully explained how you will designate which console is your primary console. I would assume that after you sign into the console with your Xbox Live Gold account that it would prompt you with some sort of message asking if you want to set it as your primary console.
