I thought I'd come to these forums finding a detailed comparison (or maybe reviews) between top of the line sets and Vizio's new M-series "Razor LED" sets, but I couldn't seem to find anything in the official thread. So here's my question - how do these sets (specifically the M551D-A2R or M601D-A3R) actually stand up when compared to higher end Samsung or Sony LED televisions? The only reviews I've seen say the quality is "great for the price" but that doesn't really say if it's actually good quality, since the price is really unbelievable for these. The design looks fantastic, too! I'd love to get your opinion on these. I'm coming from a Samsung PN51D8000 plasma and am looking for something brighter (I have a bright room) and more vibrant. How will these Vizio sets compare to that?

I have not seen too many reviews for the M series Vizio - best thing to do is to check the associated threads with the TV you are looking for here on AVS. I did see some of the new Sony 70 inch panels at HH Greg last week, and they looked OK also for an LED - slightly more expensive, but a nicer looking frame than the Vizio. The performance of the Samsung displays is very good, little lag if you are a gamer, and the app selection is huge. Happy shopping!
Did you read the cnet review of the M551D, they briefly compare it to a few other TVs? It one of the reasons I decided to give the M501D a chance (don't have it yet). My decision came down to the Vizio and a Sony KDL50R550A. I know that's not a high end Sony but the Vizio looked ever bit as good picture quality wise IMO. Now, I couldn't do an AB comparison because they were at different stores but every time I went back to the Vizio it looked just as good and $200 cheaper. The Vizio also had a little better viewing angle but, not a huge difference. This probably doesn't help you much but it was my experience.
I Had the vizio m651d and returned it do to the glare on the screen the picture was great and the 3d was great I then got the samsung un65f7100 and from the time I plugged it in I knew I was not happy with it as the pq was nowhere near as good as the vizio so I returned and got the m701d and love it. it Is by far a better picture and more satisfying tv to watch. I really wanted the sammy to perform better due to all the hype on the sammys but that was not the case. I will take the vizio over the 7100 series sammys anyday and twice on sundays. And I am very picky when it Comes to my tvs
The vizio is "good for the money", but it ends there. In this case you are getting what you pay for. The PQ looks exactly, and I mean exactly, like my 27" korean IPS monitor, just blown up bigger. Shadow detail is lacking and blacks are mediocre. Colors are what you would expect form a mid-grade IPS panel and viewing angles are also what you would expect from a mid-grade IPS panel. Off center viewing washes out the picture but colors stay true. Coming from a plasma you might have a hard time adjusting to the PQ of the vizio. The blacks will be much lighter and the colors wont have the same pop because overall picture depth wont be near what you have on your plasma. It will however be much brighter, and you can get a 70" for a good price. The design of the tv is also very attractive.
Im in the market for a TV, my choices narrowed down to are the Vizio M 70, Samsung 65' 8000 series tv and the Samsung 75" 7100 Tv. I currently have 2010 model Samsung un468000 TV. That is one of the best pictures on a TV i have seen. I was wandering which one would be the best picture, contrast, and deep black level, quick refresh, out of these 3, or closest to the picture of my current TV. Obviously the 65"8000 Sammy would be the answer (if i wanted the same tv just bigger), but really wandering if the Vizio M series 70" or 80" Tv would be, compared to the 8000 series Sammy?
