1. I highly recommend Spectacle mode. IIRC it is the replacement of 70mm Cinema. It gives the feeling that your room suddenly becomes much larger and taller. It is nothing like the Sony DSP program. Furthermore you can customize the reverb level etc of each DSP program to your liking.
Timbre Matching, even as a THX Certified Professional, I find it to be totally unnecessary as the matching is already done by YPAO EQ.
I actually miss seeing "70 mm Spectacle" show up on my prior Yamaha AVRs. Yamaha nostalgia that's for sure . I love the dynamics and the "larger/taller" effect are noticeable and definitely a reason why I've stayed with using this DSP for movies on all my prior Yamaha units, with exception of the RX-Z1, which although was a flagship model I could never quite get this DSP tuned properly. My room at that time was untreated and there were too many reflections with this DSP. It sounded cluttered and noisy. Perhaps if YPAO were available on that unit it might have properly tuned it correctly, but I could never quite get it working right with manual tuning.
A bit of nostalgia.
