Official Samsung PNxxF8500 Owners Thread (No Street Price Talk) - Page 14

Well, my 64F8500 is being delivered as we speak!

I'm coming from a mid range LG 47" LCD from 2008. I'm excited about this TV since I know how much the tech has changed since then.

Any words of advice for a first time plasma owner? Is it true there are slides and blurays that will "break it in" for you?

Sorry for the n00b questions.

Well, I finally joined the 64F8500 club. Decided to take a print out from East Coast TV shopping cart price to Best Buy and they matched it no questions asked with free delivery and 24 month interest free financing. Delivery options were this Friday or next Wednesday, unfortunately I won't be in town Friday so had to choose next Wednesday. Woo hoo!

The update 1103 is over the air. It came up when checked the update software in the TV.
I think it is pushed randomly

I dont know about brightness pops because I personally havent seen one single incident while watching both 2d or 3d even before any update but all I can say that the PQ improvement can be noticed

Thank you, this is replacing a 7 year old Sharp 52D62U CCFL set. I actually think the picture on my Sharp is still amazing and I've never had any issues but I can just imagine how much better the F8500 is gonna be!biggrin.gif

You got an 8500? I guess we have the same taste in tvs, both of us have an LHX and F8500.

Coming soon, right now moving to another town with a larger apartment and first floor. Will not be able to take delivery till July.

Yes I still have my LHX which will be moved to the master bedroom. A lot of things going crazy right now!

How bad is the lag for gaming on this set? If I decide to part with my Kuro, I am eyeing this set or the Panasonic VT60. I noticed the high lag in another thread and was concernced it would be noticeable while playing games. Has anyone played games on this set? I am also concerned about IR but I guess neither brand is going to be as good as my Kuro which is something I will have to get over. Thanks in advance!

Mine's level and solid. If I lightly push back and forth on the top edge it sways a bit, just flexing, but the base does not rock at all.

One issue I do have with the base is there's no padding at all on the bottom of the ends. When the delivery guys set it on my table and slid it slightly it gouged out some scratches on the table. Can anyone confirm whether the ends of the base have any sort of pad to allow smooth sliding? I'm going to have to put something under there but haven't figured out just what to use.

Congrats. Just got my 64F8500 from BB as well. Can't say enough good things about the customer service at my local Magnolia. Price matching, financing, problem resolution, trade-in value. Really exceeded my expectations. The F8500 is amazingly good.

I have the 60F8500 and for multiplayer fps( MW3, Black Ops II, etc), I couldn't play it. The lag was unbearable. Now for single player like Super Stardust or something it wasn't too bad. If you're coming from a Kuro (I also have one: 111FD) you WILL notice the difference. Gaming on a Kuro is special. As far as image retention I've had mine since April and have yet to notice any.

you can try the felt pad stuff in the foot care section of most stores. dont remember what its called but its a one piece rectangle that comes in different thicknesses you can cut to fit. i use it under everything to protect tabletops. one side is sticky, but only comes in tan or white. OR you can get the small round felt pads for tabletop accessories (they come in dark color) usually found near picture hanging hooks in walmart, target, etc.. depends on how much of a gap you have as to which might work best!

Yes I do too on firmware 1104. I watch a lot of 3D since I bought this set and I would like to see it without the pops.

Well I'm now guessing that there is some problem in the making of the base and some of them (like mine) don't come out "flat". No big deal, a little shimming has taken care of the rocking but, as you mention, the set does sway a bit even when the base is stable.

Moleskin. Yes, I have some of that. Good suggestion. I'll look for that felt as well. Thanks.

Nothing for me that I noticed last night watching the Hawks win. I use an OTA antenna and a TIVO HD or Series 3 to feed my A/V received.
