Falling Skies, the sci-fi series produced by Steven Spielberg, has a lot to live up to when it comes to the sound experience. In a video interview, re-recording mixer Mark Fleming talks about the mixing process and how intricate each episode is when it comes to fitting all the various sounds in the track appropriately. In the video, Fleming remarks, "We get as many as 48 to 50 tracks of dialog and some times up to 200-250 tracks of effects." And that's in any given scene!
That's a lot of material to work with, and anyone who's seen the show knows it pays off in the end. The surround experience and the amount of discernible layers of audio are impressive for a TV show. These surround mixes always place you in the middle of every chase, battle, and heart-pounding scene. Fleming goes on to talk about how great it is that the Blu-ray has Dolby TrueHD because the listener gets to hear exactly what he mixed and intended for you to hear. The Blu-ray for Season 2 will be available to purchase on June 4th, 2013.
