im about to pull the trigger on one of these. the price difference is pretty negligible and I figured they were closely matched....

There may even be better options? ill give my specs here...

seating distance 10-15' away.
budget is 4k or less shipped to my door.
I want at least a 75" for this setup.

from researching it looks like the 844u with its full array backlighting is a nice set for 3500 bucks. I went into conns yesterday and saw both of these sets in action but its hard to judge knowing that neither set was calibrated. The 75" F6400 series samsung appeared to have a far nicer and sharper picture. I noticed I could see details in the black and shadows that were not visible on the sharp tv. Both TV's had a weird "soap opera" effect and looked a tad awkward on the moving scenes. The colors were overly saturated on both sets but I was still very impressed with the sharpness and brightness of the Samsung versus the sharp. Im heavily leaning towards the Samsung 75" on this one...

Love my 75f6400 and have written extensive thoughts in the 6400 thread.

For my part the Sharps have never grabbed me - either PQ or physical sets themselves. I looked long and hard at the 632 and 844 but could never bring myself to pull the trigger. I gather they can be calibrated quite nicely - the 844 moreso than the 632 iirc - but maybe you can get some 844 settings from owners and take some time entering them at a store in order to make the decision? I would think if you're ready to buy they'd let you...

Good luck!

Ive scoured both threads, it seems like a tough decision. I attempted to change settings in the store but was told the tv's were in "store" mode or something and I couldnt change the settings...

The samsung did appear to have more clarity and sharper image. I did notice some artifacts around quick moving areas and a slight studder in the samsung that i did not see on the sharp. this worried me a little about the Samsung. I imagine that the stored had the artificial refresh rate software cranked up to max...

Yup there are approximately one million settings on the Samsung and half seem to impact motion. Sort of a pita but what I didn't was turn just about everything off except Film Mode 2 and AMP Clear. No SOE but otherwise clear pans, clear tickers, and good motion. Probably something you could adjust quickly to see if that helps.

I am also thinking about adding the LC90LE745U to the mix, the full array lit 90" is a beast but I dont know about pic quality vs the 80" or the Sammy

Would you guys say the 90" screen would be too big for me under these circumstances?

main viewing distance: 12-14 feet
secondary living room outer circumference couch seating: 6-12 feet ( im not as worried about pic quality here as I am at the main centered seating position)
usable living room seating size, 13x16 feet.
Also note that I move about once every year or two so This thing will be coming with me....

no, I sit 9ft away from a 106" screen. Bigger the better. Go with the 90"

I agree but with the caveat that it depends on source quality at these sizes and viewing distances. Bluray and high quality HD cable feeds will look amazing but older 4x3 SD stuff can be literally unwatchable.
