yes, I have Comcast.
I'm not sure what you mean by 2014 money... please explain (or don't.. I'm not your boss ) but MetroNet Fiber is coming to the area (should be at my house sometime this year) and I intend on switching. It doesn't really help me in terms of my HTPC DVR since MetroNet uses IPTV and, as far as I know, there is no real way to integrate the two.
I do have a tech support request out and the local office contacted me and let me know that they did not know of any way but they he'd look into it with higher level support. I'm not holding my breath for anything but hats off to them for checking.
The issue I often run into when dealing with HTPCs and tech support is that "tech" is a completely bogus term. Every time I've tried to explain that I use a computer to get my TV they are amazed at the whole concept. They always say something like "well you don't get any guide listings"... which I find humorous.
My point is... Locally (and even regionally) the people who "support" their product know very little about the technology that goes into their service... it might as well be magic to them. What's frustrating is the engineers and the people who make decisions know EXACTLY how it works and are very aware of what people like us are doing. This wasn't able stealing cable (like they said) its about being able to nickel-and-dime their customers.
EDIT: For the record - if they had continued to allow me to use my HTPC without the addition of a cable card I probably wouldn't be planning on switching services. Up to that point I was really satisfied with the level of service I was getting for what I was paying. Their attempt to squeeze more money out of my will result in them losing all of my business.
