BenQ W1250

Does anyone know about the BenQ W1250? Costco.ca is selling it for a decent price, but I can't find information about it anywhere! Is it the same, worse, better than the W1070? The specs look dead on.

Thanks!

If you check the last few posts in the W1070 thread, you'll see people asking the same question. Seems nobody really knows much about it and it doesn't show up on the Benq website. The specs they have posted match the W1070. Also, be aware that Costco.ca has a coupon out for $200 off this projector for a couple of weeks starting June 24. You can find info on that in the W1070 thread as well.

If it's only @ Costco, it may a model specific to them.

Similar to what Bestbuy used to do.

They would get a model number made specially for them so they wouldn't have to price match.

The Vivitek H5082 comes to mind.

I'm not sure if Bestbuy still does this or if Costco ever did.

It's strange because I don't think Costco has a price matching policy. I guess we just have to wait and see. I wonder if I can buy it now and get the $200 discount when it comes out.

I posted this in the long 1070 thread. Stock number of W 1250 with glasses is 877013. Stock number of the sale projector is 877113. It could be a misprint and they are the same item. Hopefully not.

Ok, I posted this in the w1070 thread, but it should probably be posted here as well:

I think I have a bit of info on the costco.ca deal coming up that might be helpful. I did some research on the W1250 that Costco is showing on the website which appears to be identical to the W1070. I poked around on the Benq website and found a W1250 Manual.

while it's not shown as a model in the US or Canada, if you select Australia as your country and go under support/downloads, you can select the w1250 and find the pdf manual for download

The W1250 looks physically identical to the W1070.
The manual is virtually identical to the W1070/W1080st manual with a couple of very minor edits
- all reference to the 1070 and 1080st are removed for obvious reasons
- the remote control is different - this one is now back-lit - some buttons are added and some are removed (info, smart eco, digital zoom and CC are removed from the remote. A fine tune for color temperature has been added to the remote. the are now separate power on and power off buttons on the remote. There appear to be three new buttons which are not supported - Wireless, SRS and PIP)
- the height is listed a 104mm compared to 109.26mm in the 1070 manual
- the weight is indicated as 2.75Kg compared to 2.65kg in the 1070 manual

everything else appears to be identical-
same features, same lens
same throw, zoom, lens shift, color wheel, ISF mode, etc, etc, etc
menu system is identical

based on this, it seems the 1250 is a re-badged 1070 with a back-lit remote

I understand tailoring a product to the market, as not everyone is the same.

For instance, in Asia they have Shrimp @ McD's. Obviously that wouldn't fly stateside.

But man, this kinda stuff just makes it confusing. I would love to know what the reasons for changing these things around in the CE arena are.

What differs so greatly between us, down under, Europe or where ever that they need different models with a feature or two different?

It seems it would just cost more and create more work for the company as well.

Just got this back from Coscto.

"In response to your inquiry, I have supplier answers to your questions below:

You have a projector that just went up online listed as the BenQ W1250.
Can you confirm for me that the 1250 is in fact the BenQ W1070? I haven't found anything about a 1250 aside from on Costco.ca
And it would be really appreciated (by myself and a few others looking at this item) if you could explain at what stage the difference is? i.e.,
- The W1250 is a Costco exclusive model that is a derivative of the W1070 (no spec differences other than sold as a soft bundle with 2x 3D Goggles)

Listed as W1250, box comes from BenQ as W1250, but is identical to the W1070?
- Yes, except the bundle with the Goggles

Can you also let me know if this is the item that will go on sale on June 24th? I believe the deal is the projector and 2 pairs of 3d glasses for 200 dollars off. So 900 correct?
-Correct, this item is on promo as of June 24th (promo item # 877113)"

Thank you! I actually placed the order this morning. I'll report how it goes when I get it.

My 1250 arrived from Costco.ca yesterday. Two separate shipments from costco; Ordered on Monday. The glasses arrived Tuesday and the projector arrived yesterday. The quick shipping caught me off guard, as I don't have my screen or ceiling mount yet

The projector came in a box marked as a W1250

The projector itself is physically identical in every way to the W1070 right down to the remote control. It appears the only thing difference is the number

I did a quick and dirty set-up to try it out. Set it on a table top and projected onto a sheet, that I tacked up.

Ran it for about 3 hours last night just playing with stuff.

Throwing 100" from about 9'.

Tried a bunch of different media - some 1080p blu ray, some 720p content streamed through the ROKU and it all looked great.

The only thing I did was flip it to smart eco mode and the picture (even on a white sheet) was just beautiful
I will calibrate it once my screen arrives

  • Lumens - Plenty of lumens to allow me to have some light on in the room with very little picture impact, except some loss of shadow detail.
  • Black Level - The blacks were not nearly as bad as I was expecting based on the reviews I had seen. In fact I have no issue with the black level on the pj (and I am very aware of black level performance). This is replacing a Pioneer Kuro which will move to the living room.
  • Shadow Detail - Once I darkened the room fully, the shadow detail came back. If you look at Art's review of the W1070, he used the train scene from Casino Royale as a test for shadow detail. I was able to get a very similar image, with the lights out.
  • Fan Noise - The fan noise people were talking about (on the W1070) was also not as bad as I was expecting. I did not notice it at all and the pj was literally 2 feet from me
  • Light Leakage - There is some light leakage as mentioned in the W1070 reviews, but it doesn't really affect anything, but its noticeable when you are looking directly at the pj.
  • Input Lag - For the gamers out there, who might be interested, I played some Black Ops 2 on-line multi-player (Xbox 360 )and it was excellent - no lag at all. Got my normal K/D. Very happy in that regard as I am an avid on-line gamer

I haven't tried the 3d yet (not really my thing), but I will try it out soon just because it's there and the glasses were included.
Oh yeah, the glasses - I opened one box to take a look. pretty comfy, pretty light - would not have any problem sitting down for a couple of hours and watching a movie with these on.

Can't wait the the screen to do a proper install and calibration and "let the games begin"

I've been sitting on the fence whether to order this until a few got out there. Can you confirm what edition of firmware these are shipped with? Also does the manual mention anything about ISF settings? I just want to be sure that this truly is identical to the W1070.

My unit arrived with version 1.04 firmware
Manual came on CD, and I haven't it yet.
Will check when I get home in a few hours and post an answer in the ISF modes

Correction. Firmware is 1.05
Checked when I got home
Also the ISF modes are the same as rthe w1070

Manual says

• ISF certified calibration control
To reach a higher standard of performance, the projector incorporates ISF NIGHT and ISF DAY mode settings in its OSD menus, which requires professional calibration service from authorized ISF installers.

Does this ship to the US?

Will Costco's in the US honor the 90day return policy if I do not like it?

No, will not ship to other countries, just as Costco US won't ship to Canada.

If you get it in Canada, yes, the US will honor the 90 day policy.

Has anyone had any quality problems with their Costco purchased BENQ W1250?

Got mine last June. One of the pairs of glasses was damaged in shipping (glasses and projector were shipped separately). Called Costco and they shipped new glasses.
Projector is perfect. I have a ridiculous amount of hours on it and I love it.

I bought the W1250 from Costco Canada a few months ago. Its been flawless. I was given a 2 year warranty through their Concierge Service as part of the deal. Would absolutely recommend Costco.
