Forza 5 10 years in the making - Page 14

if it looks and drives better and has better head tracking, that's what I want. again, upgrade or downgrade depends on what you use. I love ForzaVista and plan to spend some quality time there. car porn is where it's at for me. it's the reason why I still subscribe to many car magazines (Automobile, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, Consumer Reports) as well as regularly visit the sites, Jalopnik and Autoblog.

Not everyone interested in this is just grading it by graphics quality. In many ways like content it is a step backwards. And lots of smaller features like the auction house has also been stripped away.

Completely forgot about lack of auction house. Many will miss that feature.

The best car porn in the world doesn't mean much when you're limited to the same tired stretch of asphalt. Hoping we can have our cake and eat it too come Forza 6. And impressive weather and variable time of day is only going to make those beautiful car models come that much more alive on the screen.

Any impressions from owners?
Looks stunning and the rumble on the triggers is pretty awesome. Drive into the rising sun too often though... later in the day would be better.
I bought it but haven't been able to play yet. Glad to see someone likes it
post #399 of 726
I like it too. And as was mentioned the rumble on the triggers is kind of awesome. Although I've only driven one car so far. A hyundai Genesis. I haven't checked to see what I need to do to get a different car yet. At least my Driveatar will be out there scraping the paint off a bunch of cars.biggrin.gif.

I haven't played Forza in a long time. It didn't have a lot of cars or tracks back then either. Less tasks is good for me because I can remember them faster. Think I will like this game a lot.

Does Forza 5 even do head tracking? We all assumed they'd naturally take advantage of the Kinect but I've yet to see it mentioned in a review of seen evidence of it in a video.

You have to turn it on. I found when I was taking a last look at the settings last night. I will have to test it out later today.
I saw a stream on twitch of a guy playing Forza 5, and he was using head tracking at one point to demonstrate how it worked. I looked pretty convincing to me!
I had turned it but the I realized I have no reason to turn my head. I always look straight ahead so I didn't notice it doing anything. So then I turned it off. I guess I should give it another try.

the natural instinct when you first use head tracking is you want to actively use it. "I have a feature, I want to use it." But the only scenario for that is when you are looking to the sides for cars in side by side racing. That's not that often.

Once you start ignoring head tracking and just start playing normally, your head will normally start tracking anyway. It's about subtlety. When you are rolling around a wide turn you do a slight head adjustment (not actively thinking of doing it) and you can see all the way into the corner.

An interesting read on the whole "Forza 5 Downgrade" thilng that's been floating across the interwebz.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Forza-5-Xbox-One-Graphics-Downgraded-From-E3-Build-60711.html

Just thought I'd post for people to see what some sites are saying.

It funny how much people have been talking about this. Heck, it never crossed my mind. The power of the Web for sure. Regardless, I am playing the game and I am enjoying it.

Love Forza 5 so far.

Does the game auto save? I never noticed it saving the game.

Interesting story and thanks for the link. It's pretty obvious to me that Turn 10's primary objective is maintain 60 FPS. If that means scaling back some of the graphical candy - as the comparison videos and screenshots show - then that's what had to be done. Was it the right decision? It's a subjective issue that will vary with personal taste. I'm more of a frame rate guy when it comes to racing games, so I'm willing to sacrifice the I/Q to optimize frame rates. Still, there's no doubt which version makes for better post card shots!

I should clarify that I'm speaking on this as someone who is on the fence about their next-gen console choice. I'd probably have an XBox One in my house right now if it was compatible with my Fanatec Porsche 911 GT2 steering wheel and pedals, mounted on a Playseat Evolution, outfitted with Aura Bass Shaker Pro subwoofers. I've got too much invested in this rig and enjoy it too much to not be able to use it with one nex-gen console, when it will work with another next-gen console (PS4). Not only do I royally suck at racing games with a gamepad, I don't get nearly visceral feedback that I get from the feel of a quality force feedback steering wheel sitting in a cockpit that is producing rumble and vibration proportional to the car's disposition.

The PS4 doesn't have a racing game yet that sniffs Forza's quality, yet, so I can't give it any consideration until that changes. I get the sense that Drive Club could fit the bill, but there's still a lot of unanswered questions about it. What I'd really like to see is some sort of deal be struck between Fanatec and Microsoft, where and adapter could be made to make the Fanatec steering wheels that are currently compatible with the 360... compatible with the One. Not holding my breath on that one though, even though Fanatec has already made their case with Microsoft about it.

PS4 is only compatible with PS3 peripherals on a game by game basis. It's up to each developer. See Sony FAQ page for PS4. Also go to Fanatec FB page and you'll get Thomas answer about an adapter. Long story short it's not going to happen.

Your reply made me look deeper into the PS4 wheel support situation. I'm glad you pointed this out because the last article I'd read on it said all PS3 wheels would be compatible with the PS4. Hopefully, Evolution will have the good sense to make a simulation racer like DriveClub be compatible with the PS3 compatible wheels!

I also found Thomas' note concerning Fanatec wheel compatibility with the One... not very encouraging at best. I just can't see switching wheels out on my cockpit everytime I want to play Forza 5, when I've still got half a dozen racing games that I play fairly regularly on my 360, PC, and PS3.

I believe Drive Club will work with your wheel. You should check DC website.

And I agree about not getting a new wheel yet. I'll see what Fanatec comes out with for the XboxOne. But I don't expect it to be very soon. New wheels, quality wheels, take time. Thomas won't rush a wheel if it lacks in quality. And Forza didn't blow me away enough to rush out to get it. And MS not allowing Forza branded wheels to work with XboxOne made me put off buying a ONE altogether. When I said "NO FANATEC- NO FORZA! I meant it. Unfortunately some who said it didn't stick to their guns on this.

I'll do that when I get home and can navigate to the site... I'm blocked from it at work.

Hear hear! That's my stance on the issue as well. Some of the gamers I race with who've tried Forza 5 really like it, even with the gamepad. However, most of them say the experience would be vastly superior with a proper wheel. Oh, and I'm also hearing from them that the Drivatars are generally working out well for them; I just need to get some specifics as to how they're filtering out their drivatar stock to get some sporting racers against which to compete!

Hey guys,

I'm new to Forza and luving this game. Ripping it up in my decked out Class A : GT500 Shelby Mustang.

I do have 1 question. I have the Day One Edition and scanned my code for the DLC pack. Where do I see the cars ?
Do I only get these addtional cars to purchase or should they be in my garage already ?

thanks....race on

This is a problem many people are experiencing: No Rewards/VIP

I am not a Forza fan but sorry, this is nuts. Early build had one car on stage, the final game has many more, games can and do change over time. In the end this is still a launch game.

I especially like the stuff on the bottom about the vast anti-Sony conspiracy in the gaming press. The guy mentioned two games, Crimson Dragon and Ryse. On Metacritic, Crimson Dragon has a 56 and Ryse has a 61 but the press is going out of its way to bash Sony and praise MS.

Agreed. Looking at the pics is one thing, but then after reading the blurb on the bottom, it's obvious this was some Sony fanboy propaganda. Then I went back to look at the pics again, and realized that Forza on my tv looks a lot better then his pictures...almost as if his tv settings are way off.

Yeah Forza on my TV (which isn't the greatest by any means) looks alot closer to those pics of his on the left than on the right. He probably setup it up on purpose to look "worse".
