OFFICIAL LG 60PN5700 60" Class Thread - Page 4

Newegg has this model for $800 this weekend.

Also, microcenter still sells it as well as other LG models. It's $899 there right now.

Variation between sets make this a really futile attempt.
Good luck.

Thanks, I'm going to go w/ the software supplied on this forum: http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration

The microcenter in St. Louis has them on the shelf for $750. Not sure why the online price is still $1699 (EDIT: online now showing $999) -- the sale price looks legit. Too bad I can't get Amazon to match it.

EDIT: even BETTER -- if anyone spots it at Fry's or elsewhere in the sub-700 range please POST IT!!! smile.gif

I just picked up one of these at the local Microcenter. Honestly, it's by far and away the best $599 TV I've ever seen. While it may not satisfy the video purist, it's not far off my two year old Panny 1080P. As others have mentioned the remote must point directly at the set. Black levels are surprisingly good for a low end set. My initial impression is dark room performance should easily outclass LCDs at even much greater prices. The screen is quite glossy so light control is important.

Kansas City still had 4 of them an hour or so ago. My salesman I've been dealing with for years said quite a large number have been sold and so far no returns he knew of.

Sorry if I misunderstood -- I'm still seeing $750 at my local store -- did they drop (match?) the price to $599?

Oops, I screwed up, it's the 5300. Still, a really nice set.

Argh, you got my hopes up there for a second. I called the KS store and the guy was like, "$599? Must have been another set." Darn, I was all ready to get the price match!

Oh well...I *am* glad to hear you're another happy owner!

I profusely apologize. That being said, this set is really nice for the money. smile.gif

No worries! The sleeves are rolled up and I'm ready for the long haul. I've got dozens of internet price-watches set, and the moment it drops below $700 I'm all over it. cool.gif

Glad I found this thread. My set is en-route in shipment and should have it by tomorrow *hopefully*. Will be reading through this thread again to assist in setup for prime performance.
Thanks!

My local Microcenter only has 5700 and hence is willing to sell it for $599 price. Check it out.

Thanks Foxbat121 -- I've tried calling the Fairfax store a few times but the voicemail system keeps disconnecting. frown.gif In the meantime, any chance you can post a receipt or picture of the sales tag (like the one I posted above) to help me make my case in the St. Louis store (just called but not getting through there either!)?

I didn't buy the TV. I walked in and talked to sales rep about it. He has to talk to the manager to get that price since it is not in the system at all. So, YMMV. The sale rep did give me a business card. His name is Jiri. So may be you can call him at the store (703) 204-8400.

The email I received today doesn't have any brand or model number in it. So, that means it will be the cheapest 60" plasma in your local store. In Fairfax store, that is the 5700.
Fabulous, thanks!

AHHHHH, I've been getting that email for days now and struggling to figure out which set the $599 refers to -- thanks for solving that mystery. smile.gif

EDIT: and Round 1 of Price Wars ends with Retailer = 1, Me = 0. frown.gif St. Louis store said they don't match on one-off sale prices.

I dont know why people would come into a perfectly good thread and then add absolutely no value to it......

I just bought this the other day.....I live about 3 hours from the nearest MicroCenter and was able to get my local ABC Warehouse to give it to me for $650.....which I was told is $50 under cost(a guy I went to HS with sold it to me)....I couldn't be happier with it(and its still in the garage running the slideshows)

Okay, SmartTV aside, which one of the has the better panel between the 6500 and 5700?

60-PN5300 here in SoCal.

Micro Center is advertising a 60" 1080P plasma TV this weekend for $599:

I'm assuming it's this LG.

A few posts up, Foxbat121 suggested that....

Which I think is right, meaning the actual $599 model likely varies by location.

The minute it goes on sale for 599 at Micro Center I will jump on it. I'm on their email list...I don't know if that will be fast enough. Wish me luck. I was in Best Buy today looking at plasma TVs for the first time, I should've gotten plasma years ago!!!!!!!!!

Went to Microcenter today and took a look at this one and the $599 spcecial the 60pn5300. Is the 5700 the same panel as the 5300 just with the smart tv features? They have the high end LG 55LA8600 next to the 5700. Why anyone would spend $2100 on that instead of $749 on the 5700 is beyond me. The PQ on the 5700 was better IMHO and not worth $1350 more for 3d and gimmicks! This guy was on the fence about LCD vs Plasma and I started to show him all our "AVSforum OCD tricks" for spotting "dithering" "black levels" etc... along with fast plasma refresh rate vs artificial motion enhancement on lcds. Made him a convert! My MC has been OOS on the 5700 model for 3 months. The black level for the 5300 has been measured by PCMAG review of .013ftl in case anyone is wondering. I want to buy the 5300 for the express purpose of trying to tweak black levels by removing the back of the TV and dialing down the pots on the Y board. There is a whole LG thread on here discussing that.

Pimp!
gonna get my 5700 today and just learn how to set it up correctly... [ NEW EGG took the $30 shipping off yesterday & today...$797]
I can't wait for Micro Cemter to drop the price to $599, again.....grrrrrr....
WOW!....In BB I saw the Panny ZT60 with HUGO & PACIFIC RIM playing on it...SICK picture!!!

ok...you said the pic on the LG can be tweaked nicely...gotta save some bucks with the LG...
Where do i get the 200 slides from to break the screen in? ty

Correct.....same one.....now that I've replaced my 50 PV450 with the 60PN5700, I'm gonna practice on my 50"(adjusting the pots) before touching my new one...

I am contacting the Geek Squad @ my local BestBuy for my Free calibration for being a Premier Silver member(I know they changed over to the My Best buy program) but I talked to the manager and he said he would honor it.......so after running my slide for 120+ hours and then bringing it in, mounting it and running it through the rigamaroles of family life....I'm ready to have it(semi)professionally calibrated......

Good afternoon,
Just now set up my new plasma 60PN, any suggestions as to "advanced picture settings", I'm not getting as clear a picture as my previous LG 780p 50" . I'm researching the internet and as you know the user guide is not that detailed. I've read this entire thread.
thanks!

For those (like me) who are still shopping and price-watching: Amazon just dropped the price on the 60PN5700 to $750 with free delivery. That matches my local Microcenter price, less sales tax. May be the best price we see for a while.

EDIT: SORRY, was a false alarm -- the price-alert I received was for a different model (6500).
