Screen grain? (not gain)

Thread Starter
After having lots of troubles with my screen due to the grain being too apparent during movies, just wondering what other peoples experience of grain are on their screens. I got a heap of samples from dalite the other day and they all mostly appear grainy as well. I was recommended the video spectra which seems to have visible grain in bright scenes also. Do you guys (Huey) notice this grain when watching movies?

For my system (DLP Piano), grain is only noticeable as a function of the film stock used. Case in point, Artificial Intelligence, which in my opinion has too much grain, which spoils the enjoyment of the film for me. I am currently using a DIY blackout cloth screen, which has a very low gain. From my experience the higher the gain, the greater the potential to see more perceived grain or sparkles (I believe as a result of the medium used for the reflective bit of the screen material), I am just guessing here. You should post your question in the screen forum and maybe some expert like KBK will address your question.

He did post in the screens forum with no responses yet. I also cross-posted his question in the over 5000 forum as I am interested in other's experiences with this problem.

I have a Dalite 1.3 gain screen, and the GRAIN in the screen surface itself is obvious close up it is NOT a smooth surface! But at a decent viewing distance it is not at all apparent.
