Battlefield 4 - Page 5

Glad to hear it works for the most part. Better for you plus less clutter around your TV, which is always a good thing at AVS!

Sucks about those controls. DICE (and other console devs) really needs to let us map whatever we feel like. I've never understood their reluctance to allow a fully mappable options.

Ya it's pretty slick. I fixed the profile issue. If you press "back" and the "Xbox button" at the same time the cronus switches profiles remotely, genius!!!! Love the device.

I may have to get one of those once the PS4 and XBO version releases. I prefer the stick layout of the XB pad for non shooters that way the left stick and buttons are parallel. I will hold out until I get my hands on the PS4 pad before I make that call, but they hace my attention.

having the select button for spotting is one of my biggest gripes!
why can't it just be L3?

Erm, how would you sprint?

The six-axis functionality could have been utilized for that, like "flick-up" or something.
Six-axis like 6 extra buttons right? Console is just the lowest common denominator, eesh. I have high hopes for the DS4 touch-pad being used on PS4 but without the 360 having the same feature it won't get used. booo.

Could you imagine commo rose using the touchpad? It'd be a God-send!!!!

If I don't thinking about it...to get six months of anticipation deflated for such a needed feature would be disheartening.

L3 only functions as spotting while ADS. Wouldn't that solve it?
I was thinking about options the other day when playing, but I was just standing there, and running never crossed my mind.
I quite often spot without ADS also.

So the issues I see are

it's hard to spot enemies that you can see
AND
all too easy to spot enemies you cant see by spamming the select button.
In certain vehicles L3 would be problematic since there is no ADS. I wish we could just remap the controller to our liking.

Got a call from the wifey, boy#2 threw a wooden block in the main room. My entertainment world has just crumbled...I now have a paid off PS4 preorder and a broken 58" Samsung Plasma. :face palm:
Luckily Samsung Plasma prices have come down. Do you have home owners insurance? They might help with a replacement. The 60F5500 is pretty cheap.

I do have owners insurance. My deductible is prolly $500 or $1000 so we have to crunch numbers on that. I really don't have money for it...that's what good credit is for at least.
Thanks for the plasma recommendation. I would opt for no 3D this time if if saved money. I really don't look forward to TV researching again.

I think all the Samsung Plasma sets are 3D this year. They also greatly cut down on the models as well. Check out the lag threads before making a call on a new set.

Sony's LCDs seem to be the winners this year with one frame of lag (only on the W802a and W900a series), but they are edge lit ips screens... The options for a good gaming screen are slim this year sadly.

I've never in my life seen/watched an LCD screen I would want to buy as a main TV, I'm not a plasma fanboy, I just have just never sat at a house and thought "I want that screen." I've heard the IPS buzzword, a Sony would probably break my bank. I don't play fighters, so I wouldn't need the #1 rated input-lag TV.

Good call on the input lag. Seeing as my #1 game will be BF4, that's important. I'm really happy with the Panny 42S60 I just got for the bedroom. I wonder if I should keep an eye out for the 60S60.

What do you guys think? My 58" Sammie (PN58C680) cost $1500 in Dec 2010 but included a $250 3D BD player and $250 in 3D glasses. Would you spend $500 repairing it? The crack in the glass looks splintered like a rock that hit a car windshield

The Panasonic is a good bet, the S60 has two frames of lag (the ST60 has more sadly) the F5500 has two frames as well, but only in PC mode. (Can't find info on game mode) The Sony is just above what you paid for the C680, but it does have an impulse mode that emulates Plasma motion.

I don't know if a repair is worth it, the PSU is the most likely to go out and just replacing the panel might not be enough to give you a good set for another 5 years.

*conversation has moved to PMs to get back onto topic.

Sorry about the tv, man that sucks. I wouldn't think 500 would be worth a repair. If it were me I'd take the time to save up the extra money and get a new/newer and or larger screen. Maybe go to home depot and buy some plexiglass armor for your new screen when youre away from your TV smile.gif

What do you guys thinks about my hunch commo rose will be available on the DS4 touchpad? I haven't thought through all the necessary buttons yet but the touch pad is finally an out-of-the-box useful feature that Sony came up with, unlike six-axis/move/eye. It's almost 9 more buttons before circle type gestures.
It's such a good idea I'm beside myself, more beneficial than feedback triggers.

Time to get a projector! When junior throws toys around, chance of hitting PJ in a hushbox is zero. Worst that could happen is he bounces it off the painted wall or DiY screen. smile.gif

Sorry to hear about your loss. frown.gif

BF4 Battlelog explained. I am looking forward to this minimap on the second screen thing and missions. smile.gif

Looking good, those are some useful features they're presenting.

I agree completely. Games I play most are Fallout and Skyrim where a touchpad can make a world of difference. Though, I am completely depending on Bethesda to integrate such features which may be asking a bit too much. But to be able to use the touchpad like a mouse for menu heavy games will be (pardon the pun) game changing.

Not sure how much you'll actually be able to use it in game though. Seems distracting but I love it!

I cracked up at the whole "grab your phone and piss around while the kill-cam is shown."

Yeah, I can't possibly stand sitting for 3 whole seconds without having fifteen devices delivering 150 different types of info in my face. rolleyes.gif

Right? Your so into redoing a class that you can't wait a few seconds...still sounds cool. I like the idea of queuing up another server in game though.

Thought that as well, but if it’s designed well it might make changing up your gear a bit more efficient and quicker. Especially if they allow us to create custom loadouts and save them. Glancing over at a tablet to see a high resolution full map is also a pretty useful solution, rather than pausing the game and becoming venerable. I’m remembering using those damn artillery trucks and how useless they were without running in and out of the menu.

Nothing revolutionary, but a lot that could make getting around the crazy amount of gear and loadouts much more fluid.

Except for Commander mode. That looks sweet and like a RTS game within the game. I just hope servers allow you to toggle it, because always playing and getting a crap commander is probably going to punish those teams. Might be nice to not have to deal with that every now and then.

The map part will be cool. I would LOOOOOOOOVE custom loadouts, even if its locked to the tablet and hotkeyed in a way. That would be useful for sure. Chopper just took you out? Click click anti air soldier on the field. Medic rigged for smoke or one for healing. Yes you can change those out in game, but you have to wait and remember to set them. From that perspective it would be nice. For some ahole to idle around and tinker while the game is going on....pass.

Honestly, every time the game registers an second screen input it should show the in-game solider model grab a tablet out of his pack and start keying in on it.

It’ll be better than noobs just staring straight ahead and not moving.
That's a helluva idea.

If guys are pissing around with their tablets/phones, then their character should be shown doing the same...pissing, that is. Hey, even soldiers have to go!

They should also give off EM signatures. Make a nice red target for incoming gunship cannon fodder
