Battlefield 4 - Page 24

Yeah it sucks the beta's over.

Anyone here planning on doing a "last hurrah" for BF3?

I kinda don't want to mostly because of the controls but how else am I going to get my BF fix for the next two weeks?

I cant go back to the old controls, I am still not 100% on the vehicle controls. I still have to think of what button I need to hit.

Newegg has $2 off till Wed, Oct 16 2013 according to the page.

The overpriced Turtle Beach one:

might be able to scoop that up on ebay used for cheap.

I actually use mine also instead of the default headphone jack on my laptop because the ground noise twerp on the laptop internal sound card is horrendous.
It's kind of crazy to plug this little cheap thing into the PS3 and it just works.

I played enough beta that I have a hunch "veteran" layout is the wrong choice for next-gen because I really looked at the control layouts.
I pulled some RedBull-esque evasion maneuvers between buildings that I would never be able to do in BF3, the kind where I was surprised I made it through.

Default has 1 hurdle: difficult to reverse in tank without turning
Veteran will have 3 hurdles: L2 fires in vehicles, index & middle required to fire and move in vehicle, countermeasures difficult to reach quickly

My compromise may be to use Veteran just in tanks but my brain didn't like that in BF3

Haha, yeah I was planning to do the same with my family. I figured I'd throw that out to see what everyone would say.

Now if the controls for both games were identical, would it be a no brainier to continue playing BF3 for the next few weeks?

If you buy the PS3 version, do you get the free China Rising content with the PS4 upgrade?

Might just skip out on the PS3 version anyway, but $10 is enticing.

I'm also still a little worried about chat on PS4. Hate that it's coming out on a Friday too. Know my UPS guy won't end up leaving it and I'll go through the weekend jealous of everyone playing.

Not sure Harp but I would suppose so. Remember If your planning on going premium, you'll get China Rising anyway.

If you plan on going digital, preorder and purchase the PS3 version before the end of October and PSN will send you a $9.99 coupon in early November that you can use for the PS4 upgrade essentially making it free. Like that you can start ranking up on the PS3 and have your rank carry over to the PS4 version.

I'd be going nuts all weekend if I had preordered online and it doesn't show up till Monday. As crazy as this may sound, I'm really excited about going to pick up my preorders on launch date and witnessing all the madness that's going to take place at my local Best Buy. I think that's one the funnest parts of grabbing one on release day.

I've never lined up for a day one launch before. But I will be make an exception for PS4+BF4. (Noting that we will be getting it 2 weeks after you guys and I will be super jealous after reading all your news and opinions)

Do you have a midnight release over there?>

Dont forget that when PS4 comes out those will be reversed. It just sucks that we will be using it one way only to be swapped out a few weeks later. L1 will fire and the triggers will be forward and reverse. They should have a PS4 controller layout on the PS3 version, regardless of how the triggers are at least we can start to get the hang of the button layout.

Sign up for My Choice for UPS, I think thats what it is called and Fedex has the same thing also. Its free and once you get your tracking number you can log in and change the delivery address or even have the warehouse hold it and you can pick it up when you get out of work. Just an idea as I plan on having mine put on hold and I will pick it up first thing in the morning. I should of preordered another on Best Buy but didnt feel like dropping the $400 at the time when I knew I had a big credit on Amazon. Oh well, hopefully the download is fast.

Thanks Cravit.
Yeah Lazy, I was thinking the same. I'm either hoping ds4 can be used for ps3 or there is an exact same controller mapping for ps3 and ps4.

My local BB only required a $25.00 deposit on each of my PS4 preorders . Did yours require full payment?

Edit: Nevermind Lazy. I misread your post. I now understand what you were trying to say. Why spend $400 at BB when you already had a big credit at Amazon.

Going to the GS midnight release myself. Never been to one but I've got that Friday off and I am set. Also taking Thanksgiving week off to give thanks by blasting anonymous people online.

I'm holding off BF3 for the forseeable future. I did everything on the 360 plus put in another 30+ hours on PS3 so I'm good for now. I'd hate to burn myself out again before BF4 drops. My two week plans are to coast through and watch some TV maybe play a little of my backlog.

Well then Veteran makes it even a worse choice and obvious DICe threw it in there for the people that bemoan switching, which is funny because no matter what the layout has changed.
IMH-low ~400 hr count (according to those with #%! Buckets) on BF3, I don't think vehicle default was optimal for bf3 but I do think the bf4 default is optimal for vehicles.

I think they will be the same, except DS3 R1L1 will fire/aim on PS3 and switch to R2L2 on DS4...based on my understanding of that Dice tweet and IMO that makes perfect sense.

Oh no I didn't go to the store, was going to do a preorder online and pick up in store. They require full payment that way. There is a reason why my name is lazy, I even used to have a license plate Lazy. I used all my credit for best buy on the xb1. I wasnt going to midnight anyway and I believe the ups warehouse opens at 8 so I'll pick it up then.

Cravit8 - what button setup did you use on bf3, could be why we see each other's button preference an issue.

WTF? Why aren't you having your butler pick it up for you? Or your chauffer? Or your maid? Or shoe shine boy? Or...?

As for me, I'm having my personal ball washer pick up mine at midnight.

I attended the 360 launch at Best Buy back on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 where I was lucky enough to preorder one about a week before. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I showed up the evening before to find out if they were doing a midnight launch (which they weren't). There were already about 80 people in line camped out in tents and beach chairs hyped up and excited.

I returned the following morning at 7:30am since they were opening at 8am for the launch. I remember that morning was pretty chilly (in the 40's) for Miami standards. The line was now wrapping all the way around the BB and my guess is there that were now about 350-400 people in line. The same people that were in the front of the line, excited and camping out the since the day before now looked like they had just spent the worst night of their lives. They spent the night awake, outdoors, sitting on chairs or in sleeping bags, lying on a concrete sidewalk and in 42 degree weather. Miami-Dade Police was called to the scene, since from what I had heard, several fights had broken out during the evening due to people trying to cut other people in line.

Since I had preordered, I just waited in a shorter, seperate line just observing all the madness that was going on. Once they opened, they allowed the preorder folks in first. I was basically in and out by 8:30am. While I was walking back to my car with the brand new 360, several people were offering me cash for it. I think the biggest offer I received was like $1,200 but I refused as I wasn't interested in selling because I had only preordered one.

Overall it was a very memorable experience and one I'm looking forward to for the PS4. I preordered more than one PS4 so if an attractive cash offer comes my way on my walk back to the car, then the highest offer takes the prize.

Yeah, my local Best Buy has already confirmed they'll be having a midnight launch.

Let's see what time I get home from the madness, though. What's funny is that my local BB is like a 3 minute drive/ 12 minute walk away..

Ahh I remember now, in BF3 there was a patch about 6 months in that totally screwed me over as it changed the controller layout. To this day I can't believe they did that crap.
I had been using alternate for all vehicle button layouts, well they changed what that meant for choppers (with no in-game warning) and whenever I switched vehicles types my brain no matter what would make me flare instead of fire. I had to relearn everything as "lefty" to keep all the vehicles the same.
Maybe I'm not as bright as the rest of the world... :-/

Good idea, to bad I didnt think of it sooner. I will send them to pick up my XB1's instead.

Ball washer? I need to look into getting one of those. Will post a job wanted in the classifieds today.
I like the idea of picking it up at the warehouse. I had a problem a month ago with Fed Ex not allowing me to schedule my delivery because I had just moved and they couldn't confirm the address. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to send my ass wiper to pick it up.

I thought more people would have switched back to the BF3 control scheme when it was patched in. I myself only played the beta for a few hours on launch day and I liked the new control scheme myself so I do not plan on going on going back to BF3...have to keep messing around with GTA V.

Its still not 100% like BF3. Since the spot button was relocated they had to relocate the smoke/flares button and the shoot button. Also the spot button on the chopper was R2 for me vs R1, it all got a little confusing for me.

Ah man, the memories...I also remember it like it was yesterday. I was one of those unlucky people that had to sit in line for about 12+ hours to get me a 360 on launch because I was an idiot and did not reserve it. It was a cold rainy night in the Philly area that night and even though I was in rain clothes, had a chair and people bring me and my buddy food it was still a horrible night. We did not have any fights or anything, but not allowing yourself to fall asleep because god only know what would happen made it a bad night.

There were not too any fights and people didn't butt in line for the most part, but then again there were only about 50-60 people in line and not hundreds like your store if I remember correctly. A group of guys actually set up a pop up tent and had Madden tournaments going all night so that did help the time go by a little faster. All I remember was praying to God once the sun started coming up knowing that my night of agony was almost over. I told myself from the get go this time around though that I would be doing a pre-order and not chancing it because honestly I am a little old now to be sitting out front of BB for 12+ hours to get a gaming console.

:-P actually I switched to hardcore a year ago and almost only played on the joker 30 server. Just couldn't go back to normal though I'm not a fanboy of either. Seem like apples and oranges gameplay
