I can't ever remember someone I know going up to a person who just bought a Porsche or Corvette or Jaguar and query, "Why in the world did you waste your money on that? A Hyundai Accent will do the same thing. You're stupid/wasteful/foolish for buying something you don't really need and will never fully use. You're not a race car driver, right? Where are you going to drive that thing? I'd be embarrassed to show my ignorance by being seen in that thing when everyone knows I paid the Porsche Tax just to show off and wasted a ton of money in the process. Heck, my frickin' Toyota Echo gets better mileage, and that's after I put a modded performance chip in it to gain extra HP."
Every person I know, man and woman included, said something like, "Oh wow that's nice! Cool! Sweet ride! Wish I could get one. Can I drive it? Congratulations!"
Mark, if you get one of these bad boy Mac Pros, you'll have my unrequited envy until I can aspire to the same thing. That is by far the best looking, most forward thinking design I've seen in decades, and it's got the guts to boot.
I'd rather drive 20 MPH in a school zone in a Maserati Gran Sport convertible than 20 MPH in a Ford Focus, even though both are getting me the same distance in the same time. When all the kids go "OOOOH!" here's hoping a good-looking teacher turns, looks, and maybe bites her lower lip just a little.
At home, my GF is all about the looks. I can have any piece of equipment I want, but the good looking ones get immediate acceptance. Since I'm interested in her approval and her participation in the enjoyment of music, HT, and even computing, I focus on high quality, good looking products, and that Mac Pro will definitely fit the bill.
