New home construction- advice for D* newbie

We're in the process of building a new house- we're currently in the framing stage.

I've always been a TWC customer, but I'm seriously leaning towards moving to DirecTV at our new home. I'm trying to make sure I have all my T's crossed and lower case J's dotted...

When should I get D* involved to determine where to place the satellite? If the roof is the best option, I want to make sure the installer doesn't mess up the roof shingles.

I'd like to also make sure the optimal location is used for the satellite.

Also, does DTV require different cabling than regular cable?

[edited- thanks cgmv for the explanation]

Just make sure the south side of your house doesn't have any trees that would mess up the signal. Dishes can be mounted anywhere as long you can get a clear line-of-sight to the satellites.

The cabling isn't special per sé, but not just any cable will work. Satellites run on (way) higher frequencies than some cables are designed for.

Also: DTV = ATSC/Over-the-Air Digital Television, DirecTV = D*
