VSX-1122-k No Power and a heft repair bill

VSX-1122-K bought in November of last year. brand new "open box special" so no warranty (ouch).

Official pioneer repair center says bad digital processor board and $620 to repair. if this i a legit quote, then i might as well by a new one. (with a warranty this time)

looking for comments / opinions on what to do next. is the quote somewhat accurate?

not looking to trash a dealer, they are very helpful and seem to be a good place.

thanks!

I don't know if $620 is a legit price or not but I wouldn't pay it either. You can get a new one for $399 if you know where to look (usually newegg.com) and you're a bit lucky.

Being an open box isn't what bit you. Buying from an un-authorized dealer is what cost. I've done that before and got lucky. Looks like you didn't. I buy most of my stuff used off ebay/cl but one of the best deals out there is a $250-$400 refurb from ac4l.com with a 3 or 5 year extended warranty ($35 or $50). Wishing you better luck next time. It's all a gamble.

+1 on above. I have bought lots of open box items too but only from authorized dealers. For example Magnolia often has open box items, and you get full manufacturers warranty. Also, the quote to repair is absurd! $620 to fix a unit that retailed at $599??? Doesn't sound legit to me.

Time to junk unit, learn lesson and use that $620 to look for a new receiver, with warranty!. That kind of money should get you alot of AVR with some smart shopping. Good luck.
