A fairly restrictive sub suggestion thread...

Lads and lasses,

Having read through tons of threads on here, I'm blown away by the level of knowledge and help. But at this point I think I've read so much, my tiny little brain is bleeding, so looking for some suggestions...
  • My budget for a sub is unfortunately about $300. Would love to spend more, but having already burned through every penny of my "wife approved budget" and then some.
  • Room size is 22' x 11' with 8 foot ceilings. There are also loads of exposed ducts in the room (basement).
  • Major caveat, sub has to be purchased through Amazon. (the budget coming from a pile of Amazon gift cards I've hoarded for such a rainy day. Otherwise, would have jumped on the Newegg deal for the RW12D)
  • The sub will be paired with a newly acquired Denon AVR-X2000 and Polk TL2 satellites/center.
  • Usage would be 50% movies/TV, then 25% gaming, 25% music
  • Footprint would ideally be smaller. The room it's going into isn't massive (and the ducts and furniture already in there make it seem even more cramped) and my wife and I aren't massive audiophiles. (Hell, we've been using just a left, right, and center in the upstairs room so far, without issue, albeit much better speakers)

Based on the above requirements, and having gone through the $300 budget subwoofer thread, I've basically narrowed it down to the NXG NX-BAS-500, Polk PSW-505, or the BIC BL-200. I know a lot of folks will poo-poo this, but even the PSW10 was intriguing me, given it's shockingly cheap price, our fairly limited requirements, and excellent reviews on Amazon.

Anyone got any further recommendations on this?

The JBL ES250PBK - $199.99, shipped, at Amazon.com. It's got decent specs:
- 12" driver
- 400W RMS amp
- 25-150Hz +/-?dB (not sure if it's +/-3dB, but it's not unreasonable to expect a 400W RMS sub to hit 25Hz with a good amount of output)

And it's well rated, too.

IMO, the PSW10 is a decent sub for smaller rooms and/or at moderate volumes. I don't think you'd find it satisfying in your HT space.

I'd be looking at the NXG. Seems to have nice specs, and is favorably reviewed.

Agreeing with the above recommendation, from Amazon, for an under $300.00 subwoofer, the NGX, NX-BAS-500 or, for a few dollars more, the BIC, PL-200.

Yeah, those were the two I'd narrowed it down to. Was going to go with the NGX, but noticed I was getting tapped for tax in California on that, but not on the BIC. That, coupled with an Amazon Prime membership, meant I went for the PL-200. Thanks, lads!

The problem with your above thoughtful recommendation, he has a bunch of Amazon credits he wants to cash in and to the best of my knowledge, Newegg doesn't take Amazon credits. tongue.gif
