wireless router - Page 2

I see the Asus N56U is still rated well. I initially got one for my router since it was not very expensive and also had mature custom firmware. Then I bought a second one to use strictly as an AP. I have been very pleased with the speeds I get from them I have been able to almost max my FiOS 150Mb/s internet connection over wireless and have no issues getting 900Mb/s+ throughut over a wireed connection. These replaced several Dlink DAP1522 APs and a DGL4500 router. I had used Dlink routers for me years but I was glad I got great results when I switched to Asus. Although I still use several Dlink DAp1522 units in Bridge mode.

LAN to WAN would be why you were maxing out the connection aaronwt.

My max internet speed over a wired connection is 155Mb/s. I can't get above 150Mb/s over 5Ghz wireless N whether on my LAN or through the WAN.

That is one FAST Internet connection. Expensive?...

I hope to get the same plan from Fios. Sounds awesome!

I'm guessing its about $100 a month.
It's only around $65 a month for the 150/65 internet as part of my quadruple play bundle.

Decent. Just now, speedtest finally gave me a number over 20Mbps for the first time in a couple of days. Not sure I'll ever be offered speed like yours when UVerse is the only competition TWC has here.

TRENDnet TEW-812DRU is the upgrade I've needed for a while. Linksys was sicker than I thought. Pages I've waited on for extra seconds now snap in. I hope the new router smell lasts a while...

Quadruple play? First I've heard of that one.

Cable. Phone. Internet. What could possibly be the 4th option?

Business service?

Cellular service?

Home security. I had the quadruple play for about a month and cancelled it because the Arris modem comcast gives you is garbage. That whole month, and the few days after trying to get everything working again, was a network nightmare.

I was actually hoping it was cellular service. As I already have Verizon cellular service.

I would be willing to sign an additional 2 year contract extension on my cell service IF I could 150down/75up FIOS for $65 bucks a month.

I'm still hoping Aaron replies back with this news smile.gif

I was going to ask the same thing Daekwan, as I've never heard FIOS offering anything with Quad in it. Our contract with FIOS is up this December, I think I'm going to hold their feet to the fire about upgrading our speed for us to renew (right now we have 35/35 with our triple play package). Our bill for that offering is in the $215-225 range each month, and if I upgraded to the 100/50 or 150/65 package it would be closer to $300/month.

For those of you that have it, is it really that much different than having speeds like we do?

Funny thing is, when we first signed up with FIOS - they gave us a $550 VIA pre-paid card for the 2 year agreement and triple play package.

Honestly, I was thinking about this the other day when I had to call Verizon support. It would be sweet if we could merge both Verizon Cellular and FIOS into one account.

Cellular. I don't think they call it the quadruple play anymore, but that is what is was called when I added home phone service to my cellular, TV, and Internet service 1.5 years ago.

With your Verizon cellular service added to "One Bill", you get an extra $10 off a month. At least that was still the case one year ago when I signed up for another 2 year contract when I got the 150/65 tier. Not sure what I will do in one more year when my current contract ends along with the discounts. I'lll probably need to drop down to the 75/35 speed tier, or drop down from my Ultimate HD tier TV service if they want too big of an increase.

It has been a headache since day one, because of the fact that 1) People do not understand how the process works, 2) Most times any concessions (ie corporate discounts), get dropped from the cellular side, because someone in the office forgot to put it back on, along with other features and promos on both sides.

Then add to that, that it messes up the billing cycle, so when the customer expects billing to be different after they do the consolidation, they get mad at the company for hiding something, which was right in front of them in the TOS, and what the rep explained to them.

Looks like the deal is dead.

Verizon "One" is no longer available. frown.gif

Daekwan, that is because now they are doing it in conjunction with Comcast. http://www.comcast.com/wireless/ This was all started last year when VZ & Comcast struck this deal. Nothing more than typical VZ & Comcast dirty dealings as usual. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2403791,00.asp

You are right Greg.

Less competition = higher prices for customers.

Thats strange because I can still add it as an option. Its on the bottom of my change/add services screen. I dont have Verizon wireless so I cant go any further with it.

You will always see it, because it is in the system, and not locked out from those who do not have that feature in their package. Basically universal.

Hmm. I wonder if I login to my verizonwireless.com account can I see it available there?

Daekwan, not sure if you'll find this helpful...but I spoke with FIOS yesterday afternoon. In our area, here's what you can do as far as increasing your speeds...

For an additional $10/month you can bump your internet to 50/25 (doesn't change your bundle package).

If you want to bump it up to 150/65, you cannot bundle everything (no triple play package). The internet will be stand alone, and will cost $129.99/month.

They also are now offering (not in my city, but it is in our area) 300/65. For a 2 year agreement it will cost $204.99.

With the 150/65 they will install 1 ethernet port in your house for free, any additional ones will cost $54.99.

With the 300/65, it is all hardwired (meaning they install ethernets all over your house as part of that package).

Hope this helps!

Thanks Lizard.

Little bit steeper than I thought though. I was hoping to keep the combined bill for internet + cable = around $200.

If I can find a bundle that has premium movie channels + sports + NFL stuff + 150/65 for $200 a month. I'll go for it.

If not I'm probably going to go with a bundle package that has the 50/25 service. Which kinda sucks, considering I already have that at my girlfriends apt. Comcast is $149 a month for all channels + DVR + 50/10 internet with no contract.

I've heard FIOS was expensive.

They don't bundle 150/65 everywhere? Here you can still get it bundled but I think you need to get the Ultimate HD tier to get the bundle along with home phone.

Nope. We currently have the Ultimate HD bundle with Internet/Cable/Home Phone - and the lady yesterday told me the only higher speed we could add and keep the bundle is the 50/25. If we wanted the 150/65, we'd have to break it up and bundle the Cable/Phone - and pay separate for the Internetz!

Taken from slick deals.net:

Verizon FiOS internet 15/5 for $39.99 a month, 50/25 for $49.99 a month no contract YMMV
Just looked into setting up internet at the place I'm moving too and found that I could order 15/5 internet for $39.99 a month no contract, price guaranteed for 12 months. Or 50/25 was $49.99, same deal, and 75/35 was $59.99.

I just went to customize your bundle, unchecked cable and phone.

Here is a pic of my order page:

This is YMMV, btw. The roommate who I'm moving in with came up with $49.99 on his computer for 15/5.

I still use a number 2 pencil quite often and they came out in the early 1900s (or at least that is when the classification system started). If something meets a person's needs the age of the technology is irrelevant. smile.gif

I've got an AC66u coming my way this week, because every other router I've tried simply doesn't have the processing power to run QoS with a 100mbit connection.

Not really complaining, it's a good problem to have. tongue.gif

Funny I ran across this thread again. And while considering which "AC" router to get next. I had looked at the AC66U, but it appears the firmware still isnt stable enough. I also looked at the Apple Extreme .11AC version, but it appears the range on it is fairly weak and the throughput speeds arent much faster than N. Anyways I just had FIOS installed today, got the 75/35 package and the bill will be about $190 a month including 3 cable boxes, DVR, a cable card and the Ultimate TV package. UTV package includes pretty much everything but HBO. Thats 439 regular channels, with 125 of them being HD channels. Here's what the bill looks like for anyone interested:

Action Products and Promotions Monthly Charges
New Double Play $129.99
FiOS TV Ultimate HD
FiOS Internet 75/35
$5 24-Month Contract Discount Included
$5 24 Mo. FiOS Internet Bundle Discount Included
$5 24 Mo. Bundle Credit Included
New Multi-Room DVR Package - 3 Room $39.99
New Cable Card Rental $3.99
Subtotal $173.97
Taxes, Fees and Other Verizon Charges $13.17
Regional Sports Network Fee $2.42
Estimated Monthly Charges
(Do not pay. This is not an actual bill.) $189.56
