About the Show

The AMC Original Series Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Based on the award-winning 2006 British miniseries of the same name, Low Winter Sun stars Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Zero Dark Thirty) and co-stars Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Jericho, Snatch). Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Season one consists of ten, one-hour episodes and premieres Summer 2013 on AMC.

Looks interesting smile.gif

The AMC track record is why I will give this show a chance, otherwise I doubt I would even try it. But, since it is on AMC, I will give it a shot.

August 11th, it will likely fill the time slot "The Killing" now uses when its season is over.

the more previews i've found that I am more interested now , ( it's my kinda plot arc ) smile.gif

Corrupt cops , murder, Internal Affairs . . . . .
a antihero ,
maybe he's a good guy put in the wrong place or bad decision by being loyal to a buddy . seems like a Very intersecting story line that the previews are projecting . a Tension drama atmosphere rolleyes.gif

That's what made 'The Shield' such riveting show was the antihero that you came to root for but in the back of one's mind you felt dirty for really finding that you are/were rooting for Vic who was morally corrupt . Vic towards the end was trying to make up his wrongs but in reality he was just out to save his a$$ when the chips hit the ground .

On "The Killing " I never watch the 1st 2 seasons of "The Killing" But the wife raved about all the time , but I missed the 1st few shows & never really felt the attraction when I seen it 1/2 way thru the 1st season . I had read that the plot has be reset to a new murder mystery . So I've watched this season as soon as It started & I'm hooked .
But as most of these type shows if your not onboard at the start it is hard to get the groove mid season .
"The Shield " was like that for me years ago when it was on FX years ago I worked the swing shift & never could see it from start to finish each season , But I just spent the last month watching Vic & crew on Amazon Prime , I was watching 5 to 6 episodes at a pop due to it being soo good till the wee hours in the morning wink.gif

Dark & Seedy is the gist . . . . . Detroit is the perfect city for a American remake !

looks like Strong was starring in the BBC show as well .

We will see , rolleyes.gif

the show will have Breaking Bad as it's lead in . smile.gif

Cop killing a cop in the pilot.

People still remember The Shield don't they, with another bald detective?
So now we can't have cop shows with bald cops that kill another cop? Lets just take out all cop shows since everything has been done before. Heck everything has been done for so let's just run reruns.
Personally similarities don't bother me, its hard to do something original these days with the amount of movies and shows that have come before.

The first couple of times I tried it years ago I couldn't get it to work because I was using the actual "embed code" from the YouTube site and all it needs is that truncated link. It's actually changed here over the years, if I recall you could link/embed video from other sources before, now I think it will only accept YT sourced video.

If the gets popular & grows legs
I'd bet it will be a series much like BB was/is .
Time will tell , I really like the cast ,so I have hopes that it will turn out good .

I saw the showrunner or EP guy say, in answering a question about will the ending make a 2nd season possible - "It better!" Sounds like this story will conclude (it better or I'm out) and next season would present new issues.

Found it.

Asked if the way Season 1 ends allows for a Season 2, Mundy replied, with a laugh, "There sure as hell better be! Yes, there absolutely is! But it was vey important for me and the writers that this season ends.” He said there would be hints at where Season 2 could go, but stressed, “No relationship will be the same going forward.” He added that the approach was, “This is our album and next year we’ll work on our difficult second album.”

Damn, yet another cop show. And it looks like a ripoff of The Shield.

But it's on AMC. And it has Lennie James.

Guess I'm in.

I'm in too but am beginning to get cold feet. Andy Greenwald, with whom I agree more often than not, wrote a scathingly negative review of Low Winter Sum in Granddland. One of our local critics had a review in this morning's The Oklahoman that was somewhat less negative but still complained about Mark Strong and Lennie James' overacting. Time will tell I guess.

I quit reading these so called pre-release reviews I find that they are spoilers to my 1st viewing enjoyment , i'd rather set my own opinion 1st & THEN read someone else . Some of these guys are setting a BB/Mad Men high bar of excellence in relation to any new show on AMC is why I say that . wink.gif .
I'll watch & make my own judgement because that is what matters to me I M O
Don't get me wrong gwsat I am not crackin' on ya at all ,

I don't read the reviews of every critic but have developed a high regard for Greenwald's stuff. Better yet, his writing is highly entertaining and I agree with him far more often than not. I threw in a comment about the review in The Oklahoman only because it was considerably more moderate that Greenwald's had been. Anyway, I intend to see at least the first few episodes of Low Winter Sun and am hoping for the best.
