LOR Dolby Digital problem

Hey Guys,

Need some help with a LOR playback problem my daughter is having (Return of the King disks). She has an older Yamaha RX-V495 that doesn't support DTS of any vintage, but does provide Dolby digital and Pro Logic decoding. She's using a Sony BDP-S270, and playing the Blu-Ray LOR Extended Editions.

The problem is that she's not getting the DD signal when the movie starts. She has no problem getting a DD signal from other discs or digital broadcasts. When the disc loads, she gets a DD signal on the initial disc load. When viewing the menus sound reverts to ProLogic. When the movie starts to play, she got no sound. We played with the player setup menus and set DTS to PCM instead of Auto. She then got ProLogic sound, but no DD.

Her PS3 is on the blink, and she didn't have any problem getting a DD signal when playing LOR BR on that player with the same receiver, so I didn't change any settings on the receiver.

I tried to see if there's a way to select the output codec on the disc, but don't see a way to force that option. I don't see any option on the player either, and I'd like your advice. Thanks!

Update. The problem is that there is no English DD surround sound track on the disc. The PCM signal is processed as surround sound with no .1 output.

It seems every movie she's watched up to now had an english DD surround track. She needs a new receiver for this disc. Given the one she's using is 14 years old and handed down, that's reasonable.
