I have the oppo bdp-105 connected to the yamaha cx-a5000 via hdmi 1 (AV1), the yamaha cx-a5000 connected to a Mcintosh mc-402 amp via balanced xlr cables. My question; can I listen to music CDs via bitstream instead of PCM? When I set the oppo to output hdmi audio "bitstream", the yamaha still reads PCM on the display. Also, SACD DSD 2 channel audio is not heard. Is there anything that can be set on either unit to pass bitstream?
Thank you in advance.
When I replaced my rx-a3010 with my cx-a5000 I forgot that the hdmi 1 output on my bdp-95 only outputs lpcm and I spent hours trying to figure out what the issue was, suffice to say once I switched to using hdmi 2 out from the oppo into the yammaha low and behold I got a bitstream signal. I would run the second hdmi out from the oppo into the Yamaha and test if that input shows a bitstream signal there's your answere. What I did for the best 2 channel sound and get a GUI on my tv from the oppo was set hdmi 1 from the oppo to video only then connect the dedicated RCA analog outputs from the oppo to a set of analog inputs along with the hdmi input on the Yamaha (av-4 in my case) then on the Yamaha with that input selected go to the Yamaha options menu and set audio input to analog for that same input. Here's a quick connection guide;
Oppo bdp-105. Analog stereo outputs to Yamaha av-4 analog in
Oppo bdp-105 hdmi 1 or 2? Out to Yamaha av-4 hdmi in
Yamaha av-4 input selected
Yamaha av-4 options set audio to analog
Set Yamaha to pure direct ( bypasses all DSP's and on board dacs)
Hope this helps. If you look under my profile there is actually a wiring diagram in my pics showing all my connections
