Use old subwoofer amp to power Aura Bass Shaker

Thread Starter
I have an old Polk PSW10 subwoofer that I replaced with a Hsu VTF-3 MK4. I was thinking about installing an Aura Bass Shaker in my seat to give me a little more vibration on the low stuff.

My PSW10 is just collectjng dust at this point, and I noticed that it says it has a 50w continuous / 100w peak amp. Can I just take the amo out of the sub, screw it into a piece of wood, and use it to power an Aura Bass Shaker?

You could, but you won't get much below 35-40 hz out of that amp. Ported subs use a highpass/subsonic filter to protect the driver from over excursion below the port tune.

Sell the psw10 and use the money to pick up a more suitable plate amp or power amp.

The Audiosource and Dayton amps are decent:

Plate amps might provide a better deal as long as you have a safe enclosure to put them in (ideally spacious, and vented).
Some of the Dayton plate amps have their own enclosure, but i've never bought one so I don't know if they are safe to operate outside of a sub box.

Absolutely...smile.gif

I did this with a sofa and the plate amp fit under the arm like it was made for it...I used it to power two Aura bass shakers. I would give it a try...you can always put it back in the sub and sell it to help fund an upgraded amp or bass shaker.

If you are using just 1 or 2 shakers, this 100w Dayton plate amp will do.

I have 4 shakers (2 under each home theater seat) and I use the Dayton SPA-250 200w amp. Has worked well for over
5 yrs. As mentioned above, sell the Polk sub....they are pretty easy to get rid of,
