Panasonic VT25 vs VT60 Plasma TV Is it worth it to upgrade?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I have a 50" VT25 Panasonic Plasma TV. How does the Picture/Video Quality on the 50" VT25 Plasma TV compare with the newer Panasonic Plasma models such as the VT60? Is there a big difference in picture quality? is it worth it to upgrade my TV to a newer Panasonic Plasma? The largest size TV that I can get is 55".

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Since no one has replied I give it a shot in general terms. Can't speak to the Vt60 don't have it. I had a GT25 from 2010 and now have a VT50 from last year. Big improvement in blacks, color accuracy. The VT60 may be a tad dimmer but not by much. Improvements were made in 2011, and then 2012 was a total redesign of from the ground up so that is the year there was the big leap in pq. 2013 has continued that trend so I think you would be pleased with either the ST or VT this year. Are you planning on a pro calibration ?

I am very curious about this too. I have (2) VT25s (54" and 58") and I too want to finally buy a new 65" Panasonic plasma like I should have done before. I don't even want to mess with the ST60 from all of the lag issues that I've read about. I personally think the VT25 has a perfect picture...even after 2-3 years. The problem is when I read the reviews of the new TV, they always say that the picture is dimmer or lighter or more reflective or not reflective, etc. Those are just general statements that compare that year's TVs....but doesn't necessarily compare to what you or I have or watch on a daily basis. I keep reading that the VT60 is dim and more reflective, but I have no idea how if its more reflective or dimmer than my VT25.

We almost need to find someone with both of them to compare them. Or even better, if the guys at CNET or other sites would list every spec of every TV in a grid so we can side by side compare them. Hopefully there will be someone out there that has both that can help us out.

I have a 60ST60. Probably the best 60 inch I have owned. Beautiful PQ, no reflections (the S60 was like a mirror even in my darkened room), no buzzing. The input lag is greatly exaggerated. I guess if you spend time looking for it you will probably notice it and for $1600 it is a steal.

Thanks for the advice. I love the price...but I don't love the Lag. There wouldn't be so many complaints if it wasn't real...but still...I understand what you are saying. I'll keep thinking about it and decide.

It was well worth the jump from my 65vt30 to my 60vt60. So it would be a very big jump from a VT25.

CHASLS2, Can you give me a bit more details? How does the brightness and glare compare? Can you tell a black level difference?

For what it's worth I just posted something relevant, trying out a 2013 cheaper model at home with my usual fare, to see how it compared to my VT25.

Based on my experience with trying out the S64/S60 as a VT25 owner, I would suggest skipping the cheaper models and only considering the VT line or you may be disappointed in the picture quality. ST60 might be a middle compromise option, lag issue aside.
