Looking for a receiver with analog 5.1 inputs

It looks like analog 5.1 inputs on receivers have become something of a rarity these days. I'm looking to upgrade my old Onkyo unit, and since I still listen to a lot of SACD's and DVD-Audio surround discs via my pioneer universal player, this is a feature that's important to me. Can anyone recommend a decent sub-$1000 receiver that has 5.1 inputs? I'd also like it to have a phono pre-amp and 2 hdmi outputs, but I can work around both of those requirements. I'd be OK with a model that's a year or 2 old and still available on closeout.

The Yamaha RX-A1030 has everything you want: 5.1 inputs, phono stage and two HDMI outputs. Problem is that it's $1100. I looked around for its predecessor model, the 1020, but I don't see it discounted anywhere.

Another thought: Does your player have an optical or coax digital audio output? If so, can't you use those instead?

He can't use that with SACD.

Oops--thanks. I know you can pass DSD over HDMI; forgot about the optical restriction.

The Marantz 5007 has the EXT IN but no PHONO or 2nd HDMI output; however, note that most posters using an AVR with Audyssey with an Oppo 105 (or other player with multi analog outputs) generally prefer passing the DSD over HDMI as going the multi analog route will disengage the use of Audyssey which will generally trump any quality difference with the player's DAC.

I think the OP has a player without HDMI--possibly a Pioneer Universal Disc Player.

Look for a used Pioneer SC 35/37 or 55/57.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll look into some of the suggested options.

I wasn't aware that the Oppo supported DVD-A over HDMI. That's an interesting option to consider. Thanks for pointing it out.

Does the 980H utlize a bass manager for the 7.1 analog outputs?

Just my $0.02... 👍😉
