Vizio 80" M801D-A3 owners thread - Page 23

Contacted customer service about firmware upgrade, no new updates, same old info, upgrade is rolling out on a first come first serve basis, first come means the order in which the TV was connected to internet. Anyone received firmware upgrade recently? Btw, looking so forward to this upgrade as a solution to the remote control issue.

I am so close to buying this but still trying to find a deal. Amazon wants $3798 and Walmart wants the same price but bundles with the sound bar but they are out of stock. I don't believe that Amazon will price match because of the bundle. That seems to be one of their exceptions. I've already ordered the wall mount which arrives Wed so I'll be ready when I find the right deal. I'm trying to find the A3R which I think the only difference is 8 glasses instead of 4 but if thats the only difference I'll go for the 4 glasses set if the price is better. The extra 4 glasses is about a $200 add on.

It's 100 dollars cheaper at Sams Club $3698

The Sam's Club version has 4 glasses, as does the Amazon version which is also $100 less than the R version with 8 glasses (if you are a Prime member). But the glasses are cheap because they are the same as the movie theaters (passive). Amazon is the best price if you live in a state which doesn't yet get sales tax from Amazon. Otherwise, the least expensive is Best Buy going through Discover.com's shopping site to get a 5 percent discount or getting Best Buy's credit card and taking the 5 percent discount instead of the free interest.

If the only difference between the A3 and the A3R is the number of glasses (4 or 8) then Amazon is selling both for the same $3798. If they honor the $100 lower price at Costco or BJ's that would bring it down to $3698 with 4 glasses and then down again to $3598 with Amazon prime. The only negative is the sales tax because I live in Ga. But I don't see a way around that.

^^^ Looks like my folks were lucky to get their M801D-A3 when Costco had it at $3,200 in late October. That's the lowest a new set has sold for, right?

that was a lucky find. I'm buying the A3 with a $100 discount since amazon won't give me the discount on the A3R. But since the only difference is 4 glasses instead of 8 I can take that $100 and buy 4 glasses for about $40

and then I'll keep an eye on the sites for any discounts between now and 30 days which I understand is the time period for price matching with an Amazon prime membership.

Well I have mine ordered and set to arrive on Friday. I also ordered a wall mount that arrives on Wednesday. A question for those that have this TV wall mounted. I'd like to put the mount up so it's ready for the tv when it arrives. Is the mount located directly centered on the tv both horizontally and vertically? That will help me decide on where on the wall to place the mount.

Or just go to a movie theatre and take a souvenir. Many of the premiere night movies like Avengers and Superman had free passive 3d glasses at one of our local theaters branded for the movie.

Centered horizontally but not vertically I believe. Mine is getting delivered tomorrow. I got it for $3200 before taxes from Best Buy. There was a website online via google shopping (looked kind of shady), and they had the price for $2798, I went to BB and showed the manager, and he said that was well below cost, but he could do $3200. I quickly handed him my card. smile.gif

You are correct. I love mine.

Just got this guy up on the wall. Some preliminary pictures of my setup, I'll be running the wires through a smurf tube installed in the wall in the coming weeks.

From what I read, it is supposed to be automatic for video games, BR discs, etc. I had to change manually for YouTube though on a MacBook Pro connected through HDMI (3D supported). frown.gif

My M801d-A3 automatically detects 3D content.

...still no firmware update though.  :-)

Even with YouTube's 3D videos on a computer? Yeah, no new firmware here too. Bah!

Do you have a htpc that it automatically detects it through? Or just through your bluray player?

Thanks

The way it's constructed, it can be expanded to over 32", meaning I've got it mounted in THREE wall studs (16" centers). Here's a link to the Sanus product page (click "View Features Video" to see the expanding feature): http://www.sanus.com/ap/en/products/visionmount/tilting-mount/VMPL3#

LInk to Amazon product page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008GP880/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1#productDetails

It allows for either flat or tilting mount - I used the tilting mount even though I'm not tilting the TV, because it brings the TV out from the wall a little (in case I need to mess with cabling). I'm not pulling this thing off the wall just to plug in a new cable!

By the way, I just checked the online (on TV) owner's manual, and it shows a mounting pattern of 400X400. In any event, the Sanus mount works.

Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation of this mount. It is built like an ABSOLUTE TANK! I honestly can't believe how heavy and well built this guy is. I set mine out 38" wide, and went through 3 studs as well, I kind of wish I had gone for the tilt mount now that I have it hooked up, there is NO ROOM, lol.

Thanks again,
Erik

I was supposed to have mine today. I ordered it through Amazon, and delivery 12-3, so I didnt go to work. I moved my 65" Panasonic into the bedroom, gave my 46" Panasonic to my brother for his home, and waited. I got a call 5 minutes to 12. The TV is stuck in Dallas due to the winter storm. SMH.

So now NO TV, and no delivery estimate.

On the plus side, I called Amazon, understanding they don't control the weather, but wanted to make sure they were aware, and since it didnt come on time, they gave me a 100.00 back for the inconvenience. So Im down to 3599.00. LOL

Oh well, Im hoping it gets here in the next day or two.

Instead of buying four pair for $40, just take three friends and go to a 3d movie at the theater, then take the glasses home!

Glad it worked out for you! You can sure find cheaper mounts, but I don't think you could find a better one.

I use a single HDMI input from my STR-DA3700ES which is fed 3D from Bluray or one of the Directv 3D channels.

That's why. I am curious if it works if you watch YouTube in a web browser (Firefox v25.0.1 for me).

As another option, I went with the following mount which allows 32 inches of extension, swivel, and tilt with a 3.6 inches stowage relief:

MW Mounts MW150C75 (from Costco)

Well I am exchanging this TV. I got One Dead Pixel!!!!!   I was just over the 4 week return mark for Amazon so they took it back. I am going to try the same vizio again, But one dead pixel = A problem for me.

Posted this in the "all Ms" thread a few days back and didn't get any feedback. Too much stuff going on there. smile.gif

Not sure this has been brought up. I just noticed that the serial number shown by the on-screen menus (System) is different from the one on the sticker(s) on the back of the TV. Could be a formatting issue? Not sure. The screen has a serial number leading with two numbers. The one on the sticker starts with two letters. Coincidentally, the starting two numbers on the on-screen version appear somewhere in the middle of the serial shown on the sticker.

I believe I used the serial number shown on the TV screen to register the TV and the squaretrade warranty. Hopefully this won't be an issue later to get firmware updates or warranty claims.

I just got mine in and unpacked it. White Glove service meant one guy with a dolly who was a foot shorter than the TV. Lol

We managed to get it placed on the mantle though, and other than a slight problem getting it square cuz the stand appears to give it a slight lean to one side, the TV went up easy. I put the Bluray and Apple TV wedged under the low side to even it out, and turned it on.

Wow! The picture is great, and the 3D is much better than I expected. I have a Panasonic Projector in the theatre room I will no longer be using for 3D. The passive glasses are much better for the family.

All in all Im very happy guy! I do wish the IR receiver was on the top of the set instead of the bottom though. I still don't know why manufacturers can't figure out that is where you stack your stuff. In this case the mantle ledge obscures the corner slightly.

Could you tell me how does the 2d picture quality compares to your projector and if you could see replacing the pj with this tv. I am debating between this tv and a pj. Thanks for any reply.

No problem, happy to give my two cents!

If you have a dark room this will go in? Projector hands down. Is half the price, quiet, has a great picture, and is even nice and bright in 3D.

If you aren't in a semi dark room, or watch TV at times with the lights on, the Vizio is better. I also give the nod to the vizio for 3D. Passive vs. Active glasses? No comparison. Kids won't even wear active. 3D movies are great on both screens for me. I don't mind either method, but passive is easier to deal with.
